Creative Revolution: Personal Transformation through Brave Intuitive Painting

I am disappointed
I am on a budget when it comes to art. I had been wanting this book for a long time, after reading its introduction in a sample on my Kindle. I finally got it as a Mother's Day gift. It has not been worth the money or the wait. I was able to pick up two useful techniques: turning the piece ninety degrees to the right and covering 80 percent between layers. Other than those, I found the book ho-hum. Maybe it's because I've already done yoga, meditation, and personal altars on my own. I guess it would be OK for people who haven't experienced those things. I guess I had wanted specific, paint-to-paper art techniques, of which there are few. Unless you're into putting paint on your hands and feet, and playing twister on a big piece of cardboard. Ummm, no thanks. If that appeals to you, then knock yourself out, this is the book for you!

Save your Money - the Art you SEEK is in You, already
Honestly - I am a pretty adventurist artist. And the last thing I need is someone who thinks they can Inspire me in matters of the heart. I believe that is a Special Journey taken alone, and maybe a good therapist. LOLMost artists do that naturally - so when we seek some inspiration - we just want to see Your Process. And that last thing I want is another Therapist/artist telling me how to live to get there.I bought this for Ideas and/or technique - much of which seems to be lacking. As one review mentioned... SAVE YOUR MONEY.The thing I have learned about Techniques - It is a Starting Point. And then you find your OWN HAND in the process. Many of which are timely and unforeseen mistakes. I learned this through Faux Finishing...that there IS A TECHNIQUE ! And there is Necessary Product Knowledge. THIS will motivate and inspire you to FIND your OWN way in the process.I don't know of one artist who doesn't get nervous about making a mistake. I also know most artists have a Free Spirit that helps them get there = DISCOVER the Horizon of their Work, and be willing to drop off into the Unknown.Visit your Own Neighborhood. And discover your area - and you will find something unique along the Way. THIS Gal comes across as a bit narcistic - and somehow had the means $$$ to get noticed. As most book and art companies are ALSO looking for a way to MAKE money off of US Starving Artists, who don't realize they have all the tools they need already. As my Music teacher told me - Practice practice practice - will get you the confidence and 'fame' you seek. You just have to be Diligent and Determined... Commitment will get you further, than someone else's idea of FAME.

Another pretty book
I saw the author's art online and was really hoping for some in-depth tutorials into her process. I also bought "Brave Intuitive Painting-Let Go, Be Bold, Unfold!: Techniques for Uncovering Your Own Unique Painting Style", zero tutorials in both. Bummer. Nice quality paper, bright illustrations that lead to nothing. They got good reviews here, so some folks are happy with them. I'm keeping them because the pages might end up in a collage someday, or maybe they'll become art journals, well worth the $3 each that I paid. They're meant to be inspirational I guess, "Hold nothing back!", "Trust Yourself!" "Allow Your Painting to Emerge Naturally!" Maybe this is new ground for someone who has never done any kind of art. Give me some new techniques; I'll find inspiration on my own.

Fun, but her YouTube Channel has the good stuff
I had heard of Flora Bowley through a podcast, and thought her idea of painting 100 small paintings was great.. it's going to have to be a 'bucket list' project, but (like Lynda Barry's '100 Demons') Bowley takes the intimidation out of painting if you are feeling rusty or brand new. This book incorporates a lot of sensual elements that I dig - scent, music, movement - although I have little patience to sit still and meditate when painting is a constant flow of decision-making, a dance break IS a good idea. This is a good book for beginners, those tiptoeing into art, or those who have felt 'away' from painting, or trying to break out of over-learned conventions. The book's lush photographs set up as a retreat weekend, with prayers, pleasures and break time for all the senses. However, I feel like it is a little light on the art technical 'how-to', leaving beginners wondering a bit, thus a star off. Her YouTube channel, however, gives a much better idea with clear demonstrated examples of some of the exercises in this book. So, if you get this used for 5 bucks, play along with her videos! And uh, maybe don't do the feet-in-acrylic-paint exercise IN the house.

Not an Art how-to,
I was expecting art instruction, not mind, body spirit and finger painting.

Juicy, rich art - follow the steps, the inspiration, or both!
This book is joyous, fun, and inspiring. The book provides a path of creative self-discovery. As a lifelong artist, I was challenged by several ideas, but found every step inspiring. What I love about this book is how it gives everyone permission to create art, and redefine "art" in their own terms. All you'll need is some paint and a surface to work on. Everything else is optional. This book stands out because it provides suggestions that could be used in any creative workshop, and the instructor doesn't need to be a fine artist. It's a very visceral, improvisational approach, and tremendously freeing.I recommend it to individuals and teachers alike.

This is a wonderful book for daydreaming and referring to for inspiration
This is a wonderful book for daydreaming and referring to for inspiration. It is a quick, light read and heavy on the visuals. While some might crave more in depth discussion and instruction, I enjoyed the photography and brief discussions of the mind, body and spirit behind Flora's work. I don't want the specifics behind how to recreate a Flora Bowley painting, I want her tips on how she gets to that place where her paintings come from, and this book delivers on that. I keep it in my painting space and flip through occasionally when I feel stuck - not so much to re-read, but to find inspiration in the pictures of Flora and her students "embracing the mystery"

Not what I expected.
I gave this book only two stars not that it was particularly bad but didn't suit me. From the cover and title I expected an art book, however it is more of a yoga and meditation book. Lovely colourful photos , but mostly of people doing yoga or meditating or dragging paint across canvases with their hands or across the floor with their feet, supposedly to free up their creativity. This may well be a path that some artists would like to follow, but there is very little instruction or photos of the finished product of the students taking part. There are some samples of the artists work at the end and it could be an interesting book but there is not enough artistic content or any results to inspire . I wrote this review mainly so that others would know that although it is a lovely book to look at , if they are hoping for a painting manual this is not the book for them.

Maybe with a bit more thought ....
This is both a fantastic book when exploring one's own creative self but so sadly lacking in that we don't see enough examples of creative end results by the artist or those mentioned in the book. I would have liked to see one mixed in with the other - passion being expressed for us to see or the inner soul in acrylics. I am sure you know what I mean. There were pictures but I think with more thought on the subject matter, the book could have been so much better and a more interactive experience between author and reader. So for me, both very interesting but sadly, also very lacking.

Wonderful, unique and heartfelt journal and description of producing visual artwork in a more wholesome way, rather than just something to look at, to be part of. On reading this book I've come to really respect the author. She sounds wonderful.
