Find some place else to go for dinner Coons!
I ordered two of these. Just like other reviews pictures show - my boxes were also badly damaged on the end where the clamp is. Holes torn completely through the boxes. However, the hooks and the clamps themselves were undamaged. I am very impressed with the quality of these hooks. They almost seem over engineered. The clamps seem to be made out of plate steel. It's definitely not sheet metal - like the cheap ones I look at in the big name home improvement stores. The clamp has very good welds and is very strong due to the thickness the parts used. As for the hook - it's long. It's also surprisingly thick compared to others I've seen in the stores. Why did I get such a long hook? The raccoons climb out the shorter ones and pull the feeders off and destroy them for the food. With these (my deck is one floor up) they haven't ventured out. I have a security cam watching them. For good measure, I used some picture hanging wire - which is thin and strong - and hung the suet cage about a foot and a half down from the hook at the end of the bar. It's only been a few days but those turkeys, uh coons, haven't even made an attempt. My only very minor gripe is I wish the piece of the screw that makes contact with the under side of the deck was wider. You really need to tighten this thing down due to the weight of the heavy bar hanging out there in space. Probably not necessary, but I broke off a piece of a paint string stick - the big one used for 5 gallon buckets and I placed that between the part of the screw that makes contact with the deck and the deck to spread out the load. I dug the half inch, or so, wide screw base into the paint stick instead of the underside of my deck railing. I'm not sure raccoons or squirrels would be hesitant about climbing out there if the deck was on the ground. I think they are hesitant because if they fall off the hook on my deck - they will be falling about 15 feet. These long hooks also help put the feeder in front of windows that are next to the deck.

Works great
If you combine this with a squirrel buster feeder then you will be in good shape. I got this to hang off of my deck in hopes that the squirrels would at some point realize that even for them a 15-foot fall to the ground is a pretty far way to fall. But the squirrels in my yard are fearless. They had no problem walking across this pole, and then down the wire holding my feeder and then crawling back up it. But that is not the poles fault. It is build really well, and it will hold a ton of weight if you anchor it correctly. I would be that you could hang 20-lbs off it easy, and probably more.I combined this with the before mentioned squirrel buster feeder, and now even if they get to it, they can just hang there all day if they want. This allows me to hang the feeder off the deck and swing it so that it is within a few feet of our kitchen window, right at eye-level. It is the solution that worked best for us. So much so, that I got a second one for another feeder. This one will allow you to easily change the location if you are not happy with your first choice, which I like over the 60500 model, which you screw in. You have to make sure you find a good and sturdy spot to put this, but if you have such a location, then you will be happy. If you already have the perfect spot picked out, and you can screw it into that location, then I recommend the 60500 model. I have that one as well, and because you can screw it in, it definitely isn't going anywhere.

Quality product but wrong size for us
Great product and used with the Brome Squirrel buster classic. We purchased the 36 inch deck extension bar, but it was too large for our use case. We decided on the 27 inch since it was less of a distraction off the side of the deck. With the 27 inch bar and the above mentioned feeder, the last / bottom level of perches can not be seen visually as the deck hand rail blocks the view. This was and okay trade off for us.Our deck has a large drop off to the ground below, so this product us keeping us safe. We don’t lean out over the deck or lean to much on the hand rail. We just walk up, loosen the thumb screw and light twist the extension bar to the right or left until the feeder is even with the rail. So happy with this product! The green color blending in well with a natural surrounding was a plus. The installation was very easy and straight forward. This product works well with our 1.5 inch thick wood hand rail and if needed goes wider. The wood handrail supporting the bar and a full bird feed is a bit a weight. However the nice supports on the clamp have prevented the wood from any depressions. The clamp also does not focus the weight of the very tip of the handrail so the wood has also not warped upward.

Excellent quality, but NOT SQUIRREL PROOF.
Excellent quality deck hook. Despite my deck having a support beam underneath that prevents the hook from going all of the way on, it still latches to the edge / last inch securely, and the hook has a hole so that I can attach a screw to further secure it if needed (but I have not had to yet). However, this hanger is NOT SQUIRREL PROOF (not that I expected it to be) .... it's a very easy jump for them. No hesitation at all. Just know that going in if the squirrels are an issue for you. This will keep the mess off of your deck, but it will not deter the squirrels! Also, my hanger pole is several inches longer than the stated 36-inch, which I am happy for. I guess the 36-inch is the "reach" that it hangs out from the deck. (By comparison, I purchased another brand that stated 37-inch, and the pole just barely measured that. The reach out from the deck is no where near as far. There is a noticeable difference in that brand and this one.) I will purchase this brand again.
