Freeze Framing & Capturing the Stones At Their Peak.
Legendary photographer Jim Marshall gained access to one of the world's greatest rock n' roll bands, The Rolling Stones, and captured them in all their decadent glory and debauchery during their 1972 tour. This photo collection captures a moment that will never be repeated. There are excellent photos of Mick, Keith, Mick Taylor, Charlie, and Bill all hanging out backstage, recording in LA for "Exile on Mainstreet," traveling by plane, etc. It's a time capsule that you can see and feel. This book is a must-have for any Stones fan but also great if you're a fan of 1970s rock and concert photography. And, finally, if you need to know who Jim Marshall is, go Google his name and famous photographs of everyone from Johnny Cash, to Bob Dylan, to Miles Davis, to Jimi Hendrix.

A wonderful coffee table book of Jim Marshall photographs from 1972 US tour.
The great photographer, Jim Marshall, was there, among The Rolling Stones👅 entourage, during their legendary tour of the United States in 1972. In this book, his keen eye captures the band and their hangers-on, on and off the stage, performing and merely casually hanging out. If you caught that amazing tour (like I did), or even if you weren’t there, you’ll wish you were there as you peruse this wonderful table book of evocative and often very personal photographs. A worthy addition to any Stones’ fan’s collection, especially of that stellar Mick Taylor🎸-era Rolling Stones band.Bluesfully🎶😎,Steve Le Bert 🐸☮️

Excellent book, with excellent and intimate photos
Excellently produced photo book with great picture. Great printing quality. What I can nit understand is why Amazon is not capable of packing a book so it arrived undamaged. How hard can this be for a company with the resources of Amazon? That damage is not fatal, but there is always a bump on the bottom or the spine of the book or a stumped corner. FRUSTRATING and disappointing.

Bravo for Jim Marshall's Photographic Work
I purchased this book more for a good collection of Jim Marshall's photographic work, and not so much for the Rolling Stones. I like this collection because it the majority of photos are suitable for most people, as opposed to some of Mr. Marshall's other collections. It is a good photo-documentary of the Rolling Stones.

Go Backstage with the 1972 Rolling Stones!
This book means a lot to me. The images that Jim Marshall took that are with-in the pages of this book were my introduction to Jim Marshall as a photographer.I was in marketing and working for Jack Daniel’s Whiskey Brand. I had sat through a number of meetings where I saw images of Mick Jagger or Keith Richards holding a bottle of Jack. These were only used internally and everyone kept asking “why do we have to keep these hidden from the world?” The answer: they didn’t belong to us…They belong to Jim Marshall. It was one of those days that an idea hit me. “Does anyone know Jim? Does anyone have a contact?”My search led me to a connection with one of my best friends today… Amelia Davis, who is the keeper of Jim’s estate. It was Thanksgiving Day of 2010, when Amelia and I first connected via phone conversation. She informed me that Jim had passed away earlier that year, but that he had left his estate to her and her mission was to show the world that he was indeed… The Greatest Photographer Of All Time. Of course some of the iconic images were known. Johnny Cash flipping the bird at San Quentin Prison in 1969. But how many people knew it was Jim Marshall? We started kicking around some ideas. Jack Daniel’s was putting in a bar at Moody Theater (ACL Live) venue in Austin. We came up with the idea to make it a photo gallery. It’s funny because I remember the conversations on my side. “Trying to sell this idea” to our top leaders. The conversation ended like this: “I thought the hard part would be putting up priceless photos in our whiskey bar. Not convincing everyone on my side that - it’s actually a great idea!!”Well, it got done, and you can visit Moody theater today and see the Jack and Jim Gallery for yourself on the 3rd floor. It’s been there for over 10 years now!So I thought I would share why this book means a lot to me. Some of these images finally made it to the public on a larger scale through a friendship and collaboration and they are the fabric of the gallery printed on the walls in High Res for all to see.Jim and Music. Jim and Whiskey. Jim and his Leica Cameras! But when you read the book. You see how honest everything is. Nikki Sixx’s essay that speaks of the “Invisible Man” and “The Mad Scientist Documentarian”; that’s who he was. He was there to experience and capture the world in a way that will never be done again with Agents and Record Labels and Social media and Lawsuits. It’s there. It’s history. And then … look at the book. It’s beautiful with its glossy pages and when you look at it from the side. It’s looks as if you’re holding onto a stack of brand new vinyls. So that’s it. It’s my new favorite book in my growing collection of all things Jim Marshall.I’m still in the spirits industry today (but no longer with Jack) and was at a photo shoot we were doing for a new project last week.We were with an amazing sports photographer and portrait artist. Of course if I’m talking photography or to a photographer… Jim Marshall’s name will come up. This photographer was just telling me of a visit to Ireland, and his stay with everyone’s favorite Irish rock band, and When I mentioned the name Jim Marshall he said … “you mean The GOAT.” Of course he knew his work. Miles Davis. John Coltrane etc.Amelia, you did it with the lifetime achievement Grammy award. You did it again with the documentary, and now I’m hear you tell you, what you have always known. Jim is the “Greatest Of All Time” and people know it now because of you!Cheers to You, and Cheers to Jim. I wish I would’ve met him. There is no doubt we would’ve been friends. For anyone reading this review….If you want to meet him… GO BUY THIS BOOK!Sincerely,Matt Appleby

A unique insider's look at the Rolling Stones by master photographer Jim Marshall
Wonderful book (and gift) for fans of photography or the Rolling Stones. All images made by master photographer Jim Marshall, embedded in the 1972 Stones Touring Party. Special up-close, intimate, personal images of the all the members of the band (plus entourage), revealing much about their interactions. For photo fans, images include portraits of Robert Frank (also a member of the STP). Also, wonderful to see great photos of the truly astonishing beauty of Julie Jones. Book is of fine quality, and images are well edited and sequenced. The essay "Invisible Man" about Marshall, by legendary Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue is brilliantly written. For those folks always wanting to see more images, the book includes a host of proof sheets, very much revealing both Marshall and the members of the Stones at work. A great book for any fan of rock 'n roll.
