So so...
I was very excited to be getting this book (since I've been on a crafting kick lately). I was overall disappointed by many of the ideas in here. They range from unoriginal, to extremely unexciting. Who wants a concrete bottle shaped door stopper? Overall, the good ideas in the book are FAR overshadowed by the countless crafts that were obviously pushed to fill up space so they could sell an entire book. You're probably better off just using the internet.

Occasionally Useful up"cycling" projects
It doesn't count as upcycling if you are using NEW items in a project. Some ideas are cute and worthy of completing. Some projects seem too flimsy to last or too ...ugly... to be items of lasting beauty or utility. The point of up/re-cycling is to IMPROVE the components. Disappointing, compared to others. Also, sorry gents, this goes for all of the do-it-yourselfers, you don't understand women or fashion so PLEASE stop putting bag/jewelry/clothing/shoe projects in your books.

Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!
I am loving this book! I am an art teacher and I bought this book thinking I might be able to find some sort of project/craft for my students to make their parents for Christmas and I have found way more than I was expecting! This book is NOT just a collection of tchotchkes! There are tons of great ideas in here and tons of items I want to make for my house! This book is a must for creative types who are looking to spruce up their diggs on a shoestring! Happy Creating!!!

Not really art
I guess I expected the up cycling to be pieces of art , but they are more just something maybe a child would do. I love to recycle and have been a working artist for many years. So my mind goes to how can I recycle these objects and also perhaps put them out as my artwork. I can't imagine a designer would put out those concrete bottles or scissor cut plastic flowers as part of decor. I hope that those who are satisfied with the book are able to be a bit more creative.

Pass
This did have some cool stuff but you can find any of this stuff on Pinterest. A lot of it is not stuff I would use, for example...they made a mat out of old leather belts. I mean at first, that's pretty cool but is it really practical?

great book
recently recieved my copy of Upcycling and I am very happy with my purchase. The projects are beautiful, the pictures are nicely done, and the instructions are easy to follow. A great resourse for upcycling the "trash" that fills our everyday lives, and turning them into beautiful, designer decor for your home! I bought the book after watching Danny Seo on the Nate Berkus show, and am very happy I did.

This book had some neat ideas, but I wasn't blown away by anything super original and I didn't like the idea of making little robots, I would have liked it better to maybe have more ideas with furniture and for the home.

A good resource
If you love to reuse and/or 'upcycle', this is very well written and the projects are valid. Not just for crafty types!

I was really excited to order this book, as I am always looking for new ways to re-purpose old things. Unfortunately, the book is a little outdated, and does not have a lot of useful projects. And many of them required purchasing additional new items. I am crafty, but many of the projects in this book look very junky (or you are not actually re-purposing something to a useful item). Play crowns out of coffee filters? Better off using recycled paper, and using the coffee filters for coffee. Sew together old towels to make a picnic blanket? It looks disgusting. So do the plastic flowers cut out of bottles (good luck doing this without cutting your fingers, as well). There were two or three good ideas in this book, but they were vastly overshadowed by the garbage.
