Peanut in the shell feeder, when we want excitement at the feeding area, fill up and watch blue jays go crazy between the nut hatches, titmice and re-bellies, chickadees and of course the squirrels. 1-inch coated steel mesh. 13-1/2 “ x 11-1/2-inch by 11-inch Stovall products feature all cedar construction, stainless steel and dichromate plated screws, washers, hooks and chains, hand sanded, assembled with screws, many products coated with wood protector which accents the wood grain and the natural warmth of cedar. Environmentally green practices – hand sorted down graded lumber. The Shop is heated with scrap wood, cooled with natural shade and insulation, nestled in a glen among 25+ acres of beech/maple/oak forest. Rumored staffing of woodland gnomes with a payroll of nuts and berries is still not factual.

It is the least bad design I have found for a feeder for peanuts in the shell
First of all this is designed only for hanging from the chain and hook that is provided. It requires spending another $12 for a pole adapter if you want to mount on top of a pole. The lid also has no provision for latching it so it would not take the squirrels in my yard more than a day to start going inside through the lid and to begin removing the peanuts in mass.It has a raised section in the center to keep peanuts moving out to the edges of the feeder which was a clever idea. Overall capacity is fairly good and enough to hold several days worth of peanuts. It is the least bad design I have found for a feeder for peanuts in the shell. It comes with raw wood so I applied a wood stain and sealer to protect the feeder. The birds love it, including the band-tailed pigeons which necessitated adding some wire fencing material to make the feeder less accessible to these large birds.

Made in USA
This is a beautifully made peanut feeder I hope to use for many years in my back garden. Blue jays have recently found my bird feeder station and I needed a feeder to keep them away from the smaller, shyer birds so this fills that role nicely. The only modification I will make is to shorten the chains so it will hang a little higher from the shepherd's hook I'll use to position it near the fence where the jays have been trying to get to peanuts in the squirrel feeder. The wire mesh will help keep the squirrels from emptying this feeder and the cedar wood construction will ensure many years of weather resistance. Metal hanging chains withstand squirrel attacks much better than cords found on less expensive feeders. The hinges on the top fill door are good quality as well. There's a cleverly designed piece of wood in the bottom of the feeder that directs the peanuts to each of the four sides so there will be none left in the bottom that birds will not be able to reach.I'm very happy with this feeder and LOVE that it's made in the USA.

The blue jays love this feeder if you are trying to attract them
The blue jays love this feeder if you are trying to attract them, although they will empty it in threes days so sometimes I fill it and sometimes I just put peanuts around the Ibottom tray. They can be hogs this time of year when they are getting ready for the winter, but I love these big beautiful birds. I am also surprised to find cardinals carrying away peanuts from this feeder. Update: now that it is December and turning into winter, I can fill it full and it won't be emptied for two weeks. I am getting blue jays still along with cardinals and woodpeckers. Great feeder I highly recommend!

great peanut feeder
I love this feeder. It is simple and very well built. I love the fact that it is hand made and built here in America. Bluejays and grackles love it. Even some starlings and red winged blackbirds show interest, but they'll go for the bird feeder first generally. I have even had a few crows grab a peanut or two sometimes, it's funny how skittish they are. The smaller birds always push them out.I originally had it hanging from the corner of my deck, but noticed shells on the deck in the morning and after a few days, realized that raccoons like it too. I hang it from a 4x4 post and the raccoon doesn't seem to bother it anymore. The hanging hardware works well and had a good length of chain to adjust it short or longer as needed.

Love it!!!
I don't know how it could be more perfect. My home-made trials for a peanut bird feeder were not even close to this well designed feeder. My only gripe would be "the price"? Then again, you get what you pay for.

Bluejays and titmouse love it.
It's larger and heavier than I expected. The hanging wire is a bit long for my feeding station but I've made it work. The opening for filling is not wide but I have had no problems. The photo is a bit deceiving in that there is a platform around the entire feeder. Looking at the photo it appears that birds can only cling or walk on 2 sides which is not the case. I'm very happy with this feeder. It looks like it will last for many years.

Blue Jays love it
I really like the quality of this feeder. We placed it on a post and it really looks great. I think the blue jays have discovered their own feeder. It's great to watch. I have a few other birds that stop by it. But, the peanuts don't last too long. I only fill it 1/2 way because I do provide some on the ground as well. Squirrels don't bother the feeder this way. By the time they may consider, I think the birds would have the peanuts gone.
