beyerdynamic DT 900 PRO X Open-Back Studio Mixing & Mastering Headphones

Rather than write majestic prose at length, I'll stick to a list of comparisons with the DT 1990 Pros, and possibly also the 1770 Pros. The 900 Pro X don't have a small sound stage, but I would call it intimate, and especially so when A/B tested against the 1990 Pros. This isn't a bad thing, and has it's advantages. Do you like your instruments closer or farther away? Imagine is excellent is either case. Bass is more emphasised with the 900 Pro X. It's more present without EQ, though not quite to the level of the 770s or 1770 Pros (I haven't heard how the 700 Pro X compare). This makes the headphone a rather fun listen. Mids and highs aren't as glorious as with the 1990 Pros, but if you didn't know any better you wouldn't miss it, and even if you did know better, the fun of the headphone more than makes up for it. These are the sorts of fine, oh so very fine differences between female vocals sounding more or less natural. The 1990 Pros win technically, but I still find myself lost in the 900 Pro X for hours. The combination of emphasised bass, sound stage and imagine make the 900 Pro X superb for gaming, and even more so than the 1990 Pro (to my ears). And, they're more portable and less dear to one's wallet. For my head comfort is great, and I haven't had any issues with clamping force after extended listening. The included cables are decent, but the ones with the 1990 Pro are better. The earpads are great, but you only get the one pair. They've got the Beyer shape, so you know what you're getting if you've tried any other Beyer headphone. They're semish open back. Noise gets in and out, but that's just a fact of open back headphones. I will say, however, that they look worse in person than they do in pictures. The plastic is well done, there's just something about it that looks odds. The 1990 win the aesthetic contest no problem. And, while the treble peak is muted, this is still a Beyer headphone. Personally, the peak has never bothered me outside of that one song by Sleigh Bells. I like them. I'm going to keep them for gaming and where I need portability, or a bit of fun for a change against the technical grace of the 1990s. Well worth it, in my view.

Best headphones ive ever used. I might be ignorant since this is my first actual pair of quality headphones but who cares, i love it. The open back is a must and i love it. while it is a tad heavy, they are studio headphones after all, they are supremely comfortable in a non-hot environment. if you are wearing it and sweating tho, it will become uncomfortable fairly quick. the surround sound in games is perfect when calibrated nicely for each game (why wouldnt you calibrate for each game separately?) and the stealth black? the colour design on this thing is one of the reasons i went for this instead of the 990 PROs. and the band. oh the band. call me ignorant but the band is a cushion and it doesn't get annoying at all. well worth it I'd say, and i'll hold that opinion until i try better headphones.

Good low end. The high mids can be pretty pronounced, but mixing with them and cutting that still gave a mix that translates well. Recommend using with the virtual studio plugin for audio work, it flattens the response curve to neutral. Comfy over a 6 hour session and despite being open back they still keep a considerable level of noise out

I bought this headphone thinking of a possible replacement for my older Philips Fidelio X2HR headphones so I obviously tested it against it and also, against the DT700 Pro X and the Apple Airpods Max. To start with, they come well protected inside a cardboard box as per first photo, with two 3.5mm-to-mini XLR cables of different lengths and a quality textile travel/storage pouch. To the sound, as after all that's the most important aspect, their sound is clear and detailed with just the right amount of bass, however, when compared against the Philips Fidelio X2, I found the Beyers have much more pronounced high-mids especially, the tom and snare drums sounding too harsh for my ear in comparison with the other headphone. Their soundstage is not as wide as the Philips and also their overall sound not so warm. The difference is not spectacular but noticeable to my ear. The bass is exactly the right amount and probably on par with the Philips Fidelio, however, depth-wise, both headphones cannot reproduce the bass depths of the AirPods Max. When comparing the DT900 Pro X against the closed-back DT700 Pro X, I like the sound of the former much better, as the latter, have a much more powerful bass due to their closed design and not necessarily sounding better. As for comfort, they are OK but again, not more comfortable than the Fidelio over long periods of listening. Of all the 4 headphones I compared (see last photo) I still prefer the AirPods Max, which is a different league altogether in terms of sound quality, with deeper bass, wider sound stage, warmer mids and highs and better overall quality. They are expensive, but then the sound quality aside, they have many other features like noise cancelling, spatial sound, on-earphone controls and seamless integration with the iPhone. In conclusion, for about 200£, the DT 900 Pro X are definitely not worth over my older Philips Fidelio X2 headphones, which to my ear sound better, are more comfortable and also substantially cheaper.

great for FPS. Better than 990pro x due to more focused soundstage. Still very airy

This is an edited review, after they broke, just four months after the 2-year warranty expired. Best sounding cans I've ever owned. Probably the loudest too. Very comfortable to wear for long periods. I used them for tracking, mixing and mastering trance and techno, for which they have served me very well... right up until a few months after the 2-year warranty expired and a number of faults appeared. There are some serious quality issues with these headphones. The headband cushion/pad fell apart within 6-months of moderate use. Cracks started to appear in the ear cups after about a year and one of the headband sliders snapped. After just under two and a half years, the bow cable, (the cable that connects the right driver to the left) developed a fault and the right driver stopped working. They don't sell a replacement bow cable for this model, so the only thing you can do is buy a full replacement headband assembly for £66, which is ludicrous. I am not paying an additional £66 to repair a pair of headphones I paid £250 for, just over 2 years ago. These headphones are made of cheese. For the price, you'd expect to get more than 2.5 years out of them. I have other headphones that have had harder lives that are 20+ years old. Sony MDR-V6, Technics RP-DJ1200 and Sennheiser HD25 - All significantly outlasted the 900 Pro X. To say that I'm a bit miffed is an understatement. They sound great and are very comfortable, but they are not good value for money. They are badly made. If you want longevity and economic repairability, buy something else.

I had a pair of Beyerdynamic headphones back in the 90,s (open-backed) and found them to FAB for music production (sadly now kaput). As I required a new set, thought Beyerdynamic was again the way to go for a well built product, I was not disappointed with the DT 900 Pro X. I wanted a set that would fit these requirements, 1=for use on my phone, 2= for use on my PC, 3=for music production, 4=for PC FPS Gaming. WoW I think they are brill, I only use WAV files on my phone and my PC as I find them the best for "me". Avalon by Roxy Music is at it's best clean, crisp with top notch base that just make you melt, as is Ghost Recon BreakPoint, I find has very good sound, you can hear all the small lost details, birds, twigs snapping, footsteps etc. I did leave my review for 3 weeks to bed in the set, as on first fitting the head band did seem a little tight but is now more relaxed. My main likes about the DT900 Pro X are = Built like a tank, the logical packaging used, the available replacement parts is very good, I find the sound to be top notch with the base (The man with the red face by Laurent Garnier to be FAB). For the price I think that you can not go wrong with it. "One thing, to obtain a good fit is if you look at the steel headband you will notice that the left side is longer than the right! So you should push/shorten the left-hand hear peace and extend the right". PS. I do use a Sound Blaster AE-5 Plus Sound Card as I find the on board sound to be lacking for the output Quality of the Beyerdynamic.

Always wanted to try Beyer headphones as everyone always raved about them especially for gaming. The build quality is the best I've felt on a pair of headphones and that's where the positives end for me. I've heard you kinda need to wear in these to get the best comfort but I wasn't willing to test them for that long as they weren't all that comfortable due to the cups being a circle and not oval shaped plus the added weight from high quality materials. On top of that the sound is pretty awful, so bassy and at the same time really muddy. It's quite bizarre to me how they're rated so highly in the community

Excellent sound profile

El producto cumple perfectamente por el precio, unos audífonos de 48 homs generan gran versatibilidad para utilizar en casi cualquier reproductor de audio que tenga salida auxiliar, incluye 2 cables uno corto y uno largo. Construcción: Físicamente es en su mayoría plástico pero de muy buena calidad lo que significa que resistirá muchos años. Sonido: excelente, es muy divertido para escuchar música, muy buen bajo ( sin exagerar ) agudos muy agradables, y la separación de sonido es muy limpia. PC Gaming: otro motivo por el cual me decidí por estos es porque leí muy buenas reseñas, pasé de utilizar unos audífonos HD 600 a estos, y en gaming los Dt 900 pro X se lo llevan de calle para juegos tipo FPS, es muy fácil distinguir si un enemigo viene por izquierda, derecha, enfrente, atrás, arriba, abajo, pero no solo eso, espacialmente puedes ubicarlos perfectamente gracias al soundstage y el Imaging que ofrece, 10-10 para jugar. Antes probé unos Astro A40 TR y estos a pesar de tener un soundstage más amplio, estos tienen mal Imaging ( sabes que viene el enemigo pero no puedes tener un buen nivel de posicionamiento como el que ofrecen los DT 900 pro X) los astro en calidad auditiva ni comparar no son rival. Resumen: los DT 900 pro X, cumplen Perfectamente a mi gusto lo que vale, obtienes un producto de buena calidad, buenos materiales, comodidad, y lo recomendaría para personas no tan exigentes en audio pero tampoco a los que quieren quedarse en lo básico.

Som perfeito e muito confortável

Kupione do grania w BF6 na PS5, podłączam je do Edge'a i działają :). Sprawdzone i do tego do czego je kupiłem są idealne, słychać każdy krok, każdy wystrzał, każdy szczęk zamka. Granie w nich to jak posiadanie legalnego wallhacka, dokładnie wiesz gdzie jest przeciwnik zanim zobaczysz go na ekranie. Nie są męczące nawet podczas kilku godzinnych sesji. To o czym trzeba pamiętać to fakt ,że to słuchawki otwarte i słychać otoczenie a otoczenie słyszy co w nich gra, dla mnie to plus bo nie tracę kontaktu z rzeczywistością.

I got to say that I really like the general aesthetics and fit of Beyerdynamic headphones. What I didn't like about them in the past was their lack of detachable cables and the very bright tuning. I'm glad to say that Beyerdynamic has fixed both of those issues with the DT Pro X headphones. The cups are deep enough that my ears do not touch the surface of the drivers inside. One thing to be aware of, if you're not used to headphones with a lot of clamp pressure, this pair can feel overly clampy. It took me about a week to get used to it. Some people will argue that an oval shaped earcups are better but I really like the round ones. As long as your ears will completely fit inside, I find them very comfortable. With the round earcups, I find more flexibility in placing the headband on top of my head without affecting the fit. When worn for hours on end, I find most headphones will start creating a hotspot on the top of my head. I need to adjust where the headband lands on my head by rotating the earcups around my ears. With oval earcups, this will obviously affect the fit and seal. Round earcups do not have this issue for me. Comparing the DT900 Pro X to the DT700 Pro X, the 700 definitely has more bass but the 900 has a more open sound. I bought both not necessarily because of their differences in sound quality. I bought both because I have different needs regarding sound isolation. I typically prefer open back headphones but in a shared home office, there are plenty of times I really wish I had a closed back pair for when I really need to block out noise. Having said that, I'm finding that I'm really preferring the 700 for casual listening because of the bass. I'm not a bass head and I generally really prefer a flat sound profile but the bass on the 700 just sound so good. It is tight and not boomy. That's not to say that the 900 is lacking in bass though as the bass on the 900 is quite good as well. I've been using the Shure SRH1840 for the past 10 years. It was never really my first choice but at the time it was the only one I could find that checked all the boxes for me. In comparing the headphones, The 1840 have a much more open feel than the 900. As such, I feel that the sound stage of the 1840 is a bit wider. Personally though, I prefer the closer sound stage of the 900. Where the 1840 really lacks is the bass and mids. Compared to the 900, the vocals on the 1840 sounds very recessed. For the price those Shure headphones are going for, I don't really see them worth it especially when the DT Pro X's are available for much cheaper. I paid $700 for my SRH1840 back in 2013 and I knew it was overpriced then, but again, it was a pair that checked all most of the boxes for me (mainly comfort and build), minus the sound quality. Speaking of build, the SRH1840 is still going strong. I have replaced the earpads 2 times and the cable I think 1 time. The headband is really worn out but Shure sells them for $36 the last time I asked them. The metal grill though has started to show some paint wear and slight rusting on the edges. Overall, I'm very happy with the DT Pro X headphones. Both the 700 and 900 are very good with different use case for each. For easy listening or monitoring, I'd recommend the 700, but for a more neutral sound signature for mixing and editing, the 900 is better for sure. *Update October 14, 2024:* Just a year of constant use, the leatherette wrapping the foam in the headband has started to come undone on the 700 Pro X. The 700 Pro X is the one I use regularly. The 900 Pro X that I use in my sim racing rig is still ok. I will still give these headphones 5 stars as they've really been pretty much perfect for the one year that I've had them so far. I bought headphone headband wraps and used it to hold the foam in place. When I bought these headphones last year, I was expecting this to be an issue. Some people have said that Beyerdynamic has fixed it by using a different glue but I knew that would be almost impossible short of a redesign. I just wished the headbands on these headphones came with wrap style cover from the factory. They look better, more comfortable, and lasts much longer than the current design. *Update October 21, 2024:* I decided to contact Beyerdynamic about the replaceable foam headband that came apart in my DT700 Pro X. I also told them that I would eventually need one for my DT900 Pro X as well. The very next day after the email, I received a notification that an order has shipped. Today, I received the new headband foams. I attached a photo and you can see the improvement they made with the new one. The old one on the left and the new on the right. The issue with the old one is that the leatherette will eventually come unglued (from my experience and from what I read from other people, it's usually a year of constant use). Once it starts, it's very difficult to put back and almost impossible to glue it back and make it look tidy. Super glue do not hold on to the plastic material of the headband. The only option is replacement. I'm really glad that they fixed the issue by overlapping the leatherette so much more where it glues on to the plastic. The warranty service is also exceptional.
