Who Is Dolly Parton? (Who Was?)

My daughter needed to write a report at school. She was excited to pick someone of her choice and have a great book to guide her.

I'm a life long Dolly Parton fan and love this book. Her story is touching and inspirational so happy to see a bio for kids but it's also an easy fun read for grown ups also. I got this for a Christmas gift for my mom who also loves Dolly. I hope they will make one on Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lalanne and Lucille Ball someday. Marilyn would especially be nice to see.

I love finding Dolly treasures.

My 11-year-old was tasked with reading and reporting on a non-fiction book. She dreaded it because she thought it would be boring. While this book could be easily read by an 8 year old, she picked it and read it to me. We both loved it! It sprinkled in fun facts about Dolly that neither of us had heard and led us to want to read more and want to look up other books and movies. I dare say it has ignited a real passion for Dolly Parton in my kiddo, and she found non-fiction doesn’t have to be boring.

I love Dolly Parton we went to Tennessee and seen her sitting on the rock with her rolled up pants and her guitar and we got pictures with her and we went to her Dolly Parton stamped show for Christmas and it was very good I love to go to Tennessee it is so much funny

The content of the book is excellent. The illustrations however aren’t the best. Several pictures of Dolly do not look like her at all. Some make her look like an elderly woman when the picture is supposed to be Dolly in her twenties. The picture of her statue is horrible, her neck is huge and the face doesn’t come close to her likeness. I am not sure how this illustrator’s pictures were thought acceptable for this book. They do nothing to enhance the beauty and the joy that is Dolly. I hate for children to not have an accurate likeness of her. Very disappointing. The book has four stars for content but it’s a zero for the illustrations.

I love a good simple biography, and this was it. This book follows Dolly Parton's humble beginnings to her rise to stardom. I found the story so fascinating that I couldn't put the book down. Appropriate for all ages. However, it would be best for upper elementary and middle school students.

Showed up early and in perfect condition. My kids love this series. Easy reads and provides an informative and positive history of the title character. Highly recommend you get one based on your favourite historical figure and see for yourself. You won’t be disappointed.
