Bird Log Kids (Nature Journals)

Decent journal for a young birder
Firstly, I want to address some of the negative reviews of this book. It is NOT a field guide, NOR is it being sold as such. As is made clear in the title, it is a journal for children to record bird observations. If you are looking for a book of bird pictures and descriptions, this is not the book for you. As a companion for a field guide, it does a good job of getting children to notice and describe features of a bird needed to identify an unfamiliar species. It has plentiful space to record observations and descriptions, and to add drawings, photos, or feathers. My one big complaint is that the life list section only goes up to 32 species. That may be okay if you are only birding in a small backyard, but I take my 8-year old camping and hiking and she is already well beyond that total.

geekiest gift an auntie could give
I'm by no means an expert birder, but I love watching the backyard feeder. My niece and nephew (ages 6 and 9) are old enough to enjoy this kind of activity - even if at different levels. My niece might be more interested in coloring while my nephew might be interested in more details about different species. Their dad (my brother) appreciated that I gave a gift that is interactive for him and the kids instead of something they just do on their own. Now we can pass down the love of nature that our father gave to us! (Oh, I paired this with buying them each a set of small binoculars.)

Wonderful log book for children and adults too
Wonderful log book for children and adults too. My seven year old grandson is starting to fill in his third book. I gave him his first book last Christmas along with a bird feeder, bird seed and a bird book. Every week he was so excited to log in the new birds that came to his feeder. He has become a serious birder now, and has attended bird banding events and bird watching hikes. It has been a wonderful outdoor activity for the entire family. What began as a gift for him actually gave me a gift for life. At the age of 70, I'm noticing different birds and enjoying nature more the ever.

Kids love it
My niece loves it. It does have a lot of words and a lot of areas to write in, so it's maybe better for a kid who can read. Although my niece can't read yet she is still excited to draw in the different birds and it encouraged her to try to write words in order to fill in the blanks.

Perfect for kids just starting to write
My 6 year old loves this. Each page has a list of questions like where you saw the bird, what was the season, etc. He is just learning to write and the amount of writing is just perfect. The questions are engaging. He's already logged several back yard birds. He likes looking at the tips and digrams in the book as well. It is very helpful to have a bird guide to go with this book as it doesn't contain pictures of birds. It's only designed to record info on birds already identified. We have one called "Backyard Birds" or something like that, which lists common species in various regions around the U.S,

BIRD LOG KIDS
The Bird Log Book is an excellent way for kids to start enjoying watching birds and keeping track of which ones they see. I highly recommend it. I purchased it for a 9 yr old.

Very disappointing
Very disappointing, I bought this for my granddaughter to use but it would soon fill up as each bird found has 2 pages to fill up with where and when seen etc so quite impractical. Its a shame as I thought this would be great.
