This shorty packs a good punch. this was a great buy. it is good quality i use it for stamping. Its not real heavy but the brass absorbs the hit and makes a second strike easier.

You are getting exactly what you expect for $8. A small cheaply made brass hammer. The head was loose, the hole for the handle like others have said is not centered and the handle is Not hardwood. The handle is something soft like pine, very lightweight and i can easily dent it with my fingernail. Also the wood handle grain direction is 90 degrees off, is not smooth and has harsh corners that splinter and dent easily (use sandpaper to ease these sharp corners). Why did i give it 5 stars? Because i knew what i was getting for $8. I sanded the handle, put a wood wedge in the head and i was good to go. I can always make a new handle for it out of oak, hickory or maple. I just like to look at it and fidget with it. (Be careful if you add a wedge, it will split the wood handle, i cut a slot then put the wedge in, and it still split. I then drilled a small hole at the bottom of the split to stop it from spreading farther down the handle)

The head of my handle was loose, but I will wood glue it or find another solution. It wasn't that expensive. I'm sure there are both better and worse products.

I wanted a soft metal (brass) hammer for tapping in frets on guitars. A brass hammer shouldn't damage frets but this absolutely dents them immediately. Either this isn't actually brass or everything I've been told about what tool to use was wrong. 3 stars because I suspect that it isn't made from brass as advertised, but I have no way of actually finding out. If you don't need it to be soft metal for your use case then it's fine.
