My favorite piece of workout equipment, but durability issues
This is my favorite piece of exercise equipment and the best full-body workout I've ever done in 30 minutes (also the most enduring/least tedious). The DVD routine changes individual exercises every minute and changes the overall routine each day to add a little extra focus on a different part of the body. Plus, there is no annoying talking from an instructor, just the exercise, some music, a ten-second countdown at the end of each minute, and fireworks at the end of every day's workout. The ball itself is like a cross between a medicine ball, a stability ball, and a stress ball. It has the weight, size, and softness for so many different exercises. Moreover, living in an apartment made this a great choice, because I didn't have a lot of space to work with. I hadn't exercised regularly in a while before buying the first UGI ball and (following the routines exactly) I noticed major results in the first month of use, particularly in my thighs, my abs, and the tone of my upper arms. That said...The problem for me has been the durability of the balls. I initially purchased the 8-pound ball and within 3 months the ball started to fray a bit. A perforation appeared in the ball that slowly got bigger every time I used it and then a few others appeared as well. I contacted UGI and although the response was less than decisive (probably a month wait) they eventually sent a replacement (after they received the ball they asked I send back for proof). I gave the replacement to my wife and purchased a new 10-pound ball. The same problem started to occur with the 10-pound ball. I got a replacement. When the same thing happened again, I just didn't feel like going through the return process again, so now I have a 10-pound ball that is coming apart. I weigh about 180 pounds and my wife about 130. She hasn't had the durability problems with the balls that I have had, so if you're lighter, then the durability might not be a problem for you.I've tried using medicine balls and other pieces of equipment to replace the UGI ball, but it's still my favorite. I just have to decide if I'm willing to plunk down the money for a new ball every year or if I'm going to let it go.

A Great Investment!
I also got into the Bodyrock craze. I loved their workouts but decided to try out the workouts a couple of months before investing in any of the equipment they used. Two months later I bought the 10lb Ugi in Steel, the sandbag Ultimate Sandbag Training Systems: Pink Power Package and the dip station, Ultimate Body Press Dip Stand. They really upped the challenge and maximized my results. It was a little pricey but I do think it has been worth it. The Ugi ball is well constructed, durable and versatile. I've had it over a year and have used it in countless ways, including as a pillow while watching tv on the floor. And, since it sits so low on the floor, it will never do as a towel holder (like some other equipment i've purchased..). You can do a lot of things with it to make your workouts more challenging. The book and dvd offer some extras I hadn't seen on bodyrock.I've bought a LOT of exercise equipment over the years and I have to say this and the sandbag are what I consider to be my best investments based on their cost, how much use I get out of them and the results they yield. If you are also a body rock/Zuzana fan and are wondering what equipment to start with, I would say that you start with the sandbag, followed by the UGI, then the dip station. The sandbag is even more versatile because 1) you can vary the grip and incorporate it into more workouts, 2) You can vary the weight so that you can get a much more challenging workout with it if you wanted where as with the UGI you are limited to the 12lbs. The dip station is also a good buy and great for ab workouts but, again, is even more limited in its use. But I can honestly tell you that adding these items to my workouts really gave me much better results.

Harder than I thought!
I saw this ball first in the Body Rock/DailyHIIT workouts and then checked the UGI website to see the different uses. I thought it would be a good workout tool to add to my collection and debated because of the price.I went back and forth over what weight to get, and I can say I am glad I went with the 8 lbs because the first workout I did kicked my butt. The ball is very sturdy and bigger than it looks online, but I am guessing it needs to just be worn in a little because some of the exercises are hard to do where you need to lean on it and balance. Such as lunges with a foot on the ball. Certain exercises are much harder than it seems because of the size of the ball. I normally use 10lb weights without a problem, but found myself struggling with the 8lbs after a bit because of the size. Definitely worked out muscles I wasn't reaching with just weights. overall it was a really good workout, and the next day I was sore in new muscles. The package price for the DVD's and nutrition book are the same price as just the ball on the UGI website, so you are better off getting the package from Amazon. That being said, the package isn't anything to write home about. You get 1 DVD that has 5 days worth of exercises. The workouts are one girl, doing the workout with music. No talking or directing at all. The nutrition book is a few pages and not impressive. It also comes with a workout flip book, which is actually better that the DVD, because you can flip through the book and do the workouts while listening to your own music. They are meant to be timed, so I just set my gym boss and do my own thing. If you can afford it and will use it, the UGI ball is definitely a great addition for home workouts. I don't think its practical to carry around with you and the carrying bag seems like it would be a waste of money to me considering how bulky the ball is.
