JHS Pedals Packrat Distortion

This pedal adds extreme versatility to guitar tone, even on just one setting, but all settings are good. I cannot tell the difference between the actual Rat pedals and this one, as I am not intimately familiar with those. Rat Pack churns out dirt, filth, and fuzz exceedingly well.

This is a great pedal. It’s my second one from JHS and I’ve been very impressed with the quality of their build and the sound. I’ve always loved the “rat“ sound, but never realized that actually meant so many different things. Out of the nine settings, I love five of them but the other four are very usable. It’s a little pricey, but in the long run I think it will be worth every penny and then some.

Of course it’s your industry standard quality build JHS is known for and it sounds horribly distorted, as in awesome! If you are thinking about adding a vintage Rat or Turbo, look no further, this is the Rat to own.

When I came across this pedal it was very interesting to me. JHS is a trusted pedal company by me. They make quality products and the owner is very transparent about their practices. If you just check some of his online content you will quickly see this guy is obsessed with effects pedals and he proves he has an ear for hearing types of sounds throughout history and then working to recreate them. The original RAT pedal was a common pedal that was used and found on pedal boards in modern music for years. If you know about them they just have a certain sound to them. Overtime, the company has had slightly different modified version that they have offered. Some of these variations were fan favorites and were very limited. They are now nearly impossible to get and can be really expensive. If you have heard of a specific Rat pedal but you have no way to get your hands on one take a look at this pedal. This pedal has the same three controls as an original rat. "Distortion" - amount of breakup and distortion "Filter" - bright and snappy growling distortion or heavy dense fuzz sound "Volume" - the volume ha The fourth dial is the selector which is where the magic happens. This pedal is so unique because there is a digital selector but it has all analog components that are used in various combinations to create the 9 different rat styles. This pedal is so awesome because it is supposed to faithfully recreate the 9 different style RAT pedals throughout the year and in ANALOG not just a digital simulation. I've only owned one RAT pedal from the 90s and I can definitely hear the sound of that one in here, so I trust the rest were accurately created. Even if you question the accuracy you are still buying ONE pedal that can sound like 9 different distortion pedals! If you are a fan of the RAT sound, then purchasing this pedal up is a no brainer.

This is one of them. It does distortion very good, it makes the guitar all like “wedilly wediily weeeee” 5 stars.

This pedal is awesome! It's hard to find a sound I don't like! Well done JHS! It is pricey but using a real tube amp with awesome eminence speakers I haven't heard any digital modeler that's comes close to these tones!

The definitive RAT source and possibly the only distortion pedal you’ll want. Go watch the JHS YouTube videos to see all the versions and variations this thing covers. It’s all there. Lots of options but easy to use. Quality build and the signal is quiet and clean. I’ve got no noise or interference like some are reporting. Those people have line noise or RFI issues. Not the pedal’s fault. I’m very happy.

Pedale ottimo se ti piace il suono del RAT, molto scavato sulle medio alte, secondo me il meno riuscito della serie di JHS (bonsai, muffoletta), ma comunque interessante per avere timbri diversi. Per quello che costa, JHS dovrebbe però implementare una funzione come sul morning glory, con un secondo ingresso, per richiamare almeno un altro suono con switch esterno.

Despite returning this product for unrelated reasons, the sound quality was incredible. The ability to change your sound with a couple easy adjustments from 80s hard rock, blues, and even a bit of metal was amazing. It’s transformed the sound of my guitar.

Teniendo más pedales es la primera vez que me pasa que al estar conectado este( packrat) se empieza a escuchar la radio en el amplificador,y no tengo ni idea a qué es debido, para el precio que tienen estos pedales jhs no comprendo como puede suceder esto.

La verdad esperaba mucho del pedal, cuando llegó el paquete estaba dañado y saqué el pedal, entonces me di cuenta de que sonaba un tornillo o algo suelto adentro, intenté conectarlo y la verdad saco un sonido nada agradable y muy genérico, no sé si se deba a algún golpe o así es el sonido, en fin está fue mi experiencia, tuve que devolverlo, eso si, todo bien en ese aspecto y se me devolvió el dinero, pero es un pedal muy caro para la calidad que maneja, terminé comprando un ProCoRat y ufff que chulada de distor por un precio mucho menor, piensen bien antes de comprarlo, éxito! :)
