Build Your Own Wire Pendants

I'm inspired by Kimberly Sciaraffa Berlin's versatile wire wrapping book, "Build Your Own Wire Pendants." Many books have rigid designs and instructions; when one follows the instructions the resulting piece will look like the author's design but there's not much room for designing anything else. But someone with a small amount of experience will be able to launch her own original designs by adding her own creativity to the instructions. In fact I don't think its possible to exactly copy some of the projects. Ms Berlin even displays a variety of designs at the end of each project's instructions to encourage experimentation (with copper wire, of course).The front and back covers display jewelry made of beads but the book also shows how to design with large stones or beads that are drilled front to back, top to bottom and side to side. Those as well as the instructions for cabochons are not like those you've seen over and over again. They are wrapped with flair and originality but are securely bound.Ms Berlin's instructions are thorough enough that someone with even a small amount of experience will be able to follow them step by step to successfully construct the pieces. I don't think this book should be a potential wire wrapper's first how to book but I definitely think it should be added to her library early on so she will be inspired to launch her own designs and not just construct copied designs.The only thing that I think would improve the book is the use of a larger font.I only discovered after reading through the book that Ms Berlin is the teacher that introduced me to wire wrapping. She was a great teacher and it shows in her book. Congratulations on your wonderful book, Kim.  Build Your Own Wire Pendants

Fantastic ideas and great clear instructions to make them. Very easy to understand how to make the items you are trying to make. Very clear pictures! This has been my favorite of all the pendant jewelry wiring books I have purchased so far! Well worth the money and I would love to find others made this well!!!!! Absolutely awesome find! Thank you

This is a very good book and deserves a place in a jewelry making library.I've made the Traditional Cross frame with square wire and it worked out well. Then I made the frame with 16-gauge round wire, it also worked out well.The only comment I would make about that frame is, leave excess wire on each end of the 10" wire. The instructions for the bail make the pendant look sloppy, and another bail works a lot better. In addition, when doing the wrapping for the bail, there is a tendency to distort the frame.The frame will probably not be perfect, but that adds to its charm!Also, don't try to "adjust" the frame, when you are finished, do the adjusting as you go.The idea of markings on paper is a great idea, and saves time for future cross pendants!I haven't filled in the pendant yet, but that will be the fun part.I'm looking forward to making other frames from the book, but I must remember to leave extra wire for the bail.I couldn't find any contact info for the author. It would have been nice if some hints were given on how to keep copper clean when it is combined with semi-precious gem stones. Instructions would be nice, if there is an answer to that problem!An index would have been nice.If you like to make frames, this is the book for you!

I know it takes a lot to put together a book with enough examples of the work and instructions. I haven't actually tried following any of the examples yet and I've been making jewelry long enough that, for me, it was more inspiration for something I had given only a small shot to.Unfortunately, even though the first projects in the book look fun and helpful, the latter projects didn't appeal at all and seemed more tossed together to fill out the book. I think this book is great just to get a feel for the original idea of building a wire collage. I do think it will benefit beginners. For someone more advanced, you won't get as much from the book. Some of the wire looks cheap and sloppy. I still do want to try out a couple of the ideas that have the flattened wire. I have a hammer block that I've been dying to use to hammer out some shapes.

I have found this book to be filled with great Ideas, however, I really wish that the wire manufacturer's would get with it and make more less expensive square and half round wires, gold and silver are so far out of my budget, and I would like to be able to use all the techniques in the book. If you have worked with wire the projects are fairly easy, however you may have to invest in some equipment to get the best results. If you are just beginning make sure to use a low cost wire and be very patient. The instructions and photos are very helpful, but you must do what Ms. Berlin is telling you. NO Shortcuts, it will affect your work. She has kindly given us good instruction. It is up to us to pay attention and let her teach. Great fun and encourages us to express our own styles.

I have been making jewelry and teaching wire-wrap classes for almost 10 years now. I have a good variety of books but this is the best by far. Learning to work with wire is very tedious and requires patience and practice. This book has an abundance of creative ideas, good close-up photos and step-by-step instructions. My only caveat would be that this is not for beginners. If you have had some experience with making earrings, for example, and know how to make a loop and wrap, you might be able to work through this, starting with the simpler projects. If you are an experienced designer, get this book! I have already sold several of the wire-frame pendants. It is a great way to use up those odds and ends of beads and findings that any jeweler has lying around. Just love it.

There are so many jewellery-making/wire-wrapping books on the market, they all start to look the same. This one is different and I find myself returning to it frequently not to make what the author made, but to get fresh ideas for materials at hand. In short, the author makes a frame for an odd-shaped focal, then builds and wraps around that. Good photos take you step-by-step through each process with alternatives shown for every project, using more or fewer materials. Unless you have EXACTLY the same stash, your work won't look like the pictures (even then, probably not). And that's the beauty of this book--Berlin shows you how. The rest you have to work out for yourself. I love it!

I had seen a copy of this book and wanted my own. I was not disappointed as it helped me with a series of projects for a course. The great ideas for wire crafted jewellery are amazing and in trying these, more ideas emerge and you go on to design your own. It is packed with information, step by step guides, and with endless possibilities to create. Well worth the delivery wait and the price, I say buy this book for reference, photographic excellence of work, and things you would never have thought of before opening it.

I Love working with wire...and the projects are great.. I so enjoy wrapping and coiling..and have tried many of the projects. This book is definitely a "keeper" and good to refer to whenever I feel like getting all wired up! . Have now created my own designs based on some of the ideas in here. It addictive and you find that you want to buy more tools to work in many ways. .

Great book with easy to follow instructions - have made a couple of the projects in the book which I'm very happy with. Very straight forward to follow and informative. Would recommend to anyone looking to try wirework.

Really good book. Nice and easy instructions to follow although have to a it not mad anything yet but will be shortly in time C........... Don't like to use that word too early really
