Complex but worth it for longer game sessions
GWT has a lot to grasp at first. However, for gamers seeking a bit more depth out of their table sessions this is an excellent mix of tile and card type play styles, and lots of ways to reckon with what the board offers. Despite the western theme it's a Euro game, with semi-independent play and each player needing to keep an eye on what others are doing to choose early on a strategy to finally claim victory at the end. There are a number of equally valid paths to victory and the rounds are lively enough once players know the rules. It has a slightly daunting set up and take down because of all the bits but that's a good thing for a fun game, which it is.

Great game
This is a great game, very well designed. It has a little bit of a learning curve, but it is definitely worth learning to play.

Favorite game
Mid - heavy game, but it's really enjoyable once you understand the rules and icons.

GWT Second Edition latest version
GWT second Edition arrived as a Lookout Games version from 2024, the board game is in perfect condition and I would say is better in box quality, components and insert than the original plan B games, a Lot more. So happy with the purchase

Other reviews mention bad printing, my copy looks good. 56 X 87 mm sleeves fit perfect.
I don't see any issues with quality for this game as other reviews mentioned. I went with Sleeve Kings 56 X 87 mm sleeves and they fit perfect. For the game itself it's been fun, I've played 4 times and each was about 1-1.5 hours. Mechanics include: Placing buildings to create additional actions, hiring workers to improve your buying power, Player and Train movement, deck building, multiple paths to bonus victory points. Actions are tied to buildings and player movement, the building type and location can be randomized to make it more replayable. Although there is a lot to learn upfront, none of the mechanics are overly complicated and there is good synergy between them.

Great Game That Cannot Be Exhaustively Analyzed
Very fun game and not hard to play. Plus it defies analysis that can make a game uninteresting after a while. After many play-throughs, we still couldn't figure out how to win for sure. Which made it fun to play again!

Excellent game
I love the redesign. Great to see women represented. Most importantly they’ve removed the offensive mechanic related to Native peoples.

Good product but beware seller
Great Western Trails 2e is a great game. It is a heavy game, and so is aimed at a small set of hobbyists. It is not a game that someone outside the board game hobby would play and enjoy, however.Beware the seller. The copy I ordered had "Brand Asmodee" listed as the seller on the product page, but on the order page, the product was listed as being sold by "Amazon Global Store UK". They shipped it from the UK to the US in a bag. A bag with no padding (although I don't think that would have made a difference). As you can imagine, the game box was damaged all to hell. All the corners were mashed in, and one side of the box was torn off. I spent an hour on the box with clear tape and, while it doesn't look attractive, the game box is now functional.Lovely game, lovely production. The manufacturing of the game was 100% excellent. The shipping was the problem. So be aware of this, and look at the identity of the seller before purchasing.
