If You Enjoy Studing the Tiger Tank, this is a must
For the armor enthusiast, especially those interested in the Tiger Tank, this book provides information I have never found in any other book. It is not hard to find books describing the exploits of the Tiger tank and their crews, but where this book shines is how it discusses the training and daily tasks. The number and quality of the photographs is remarkable. If you don't already own the other books in the series, Tigers in Combat I, and II, do your self a favor if you enjoy studying this amazing tank, buy them all, you will not be disappointed.

Well done research!
Many interesting small detail is listed about what to do and how to operate or how to remove that part etc.. It is also importand to note that in many maintenance aspects the Tiger and kingtiger were different whit the later being more advanced, more accessable to crew.Higly recommend if you interested in tiger tanks or keeping tanks operational in general.

The Culmination of an Amazingly Complete Series
This is the third volume in the TiC series. It is excellent. Vol. III covers maintenance, crew roles, and has unit photos left out of the previous volumes or newly found. In a perfect world, this book would have been published first to make many of the details in the previous books more understandable, but it is a delight to have even now as a summary for how the crews cared for their weapon and fought inside it. Maybe not every Tiger was photographed, but after these three volumes, you wonder how anyone got missed!

Hodge-Podge of Leftover Photos
Fairly disappointed in this 3rd edition. I own volumes 1 and 2, so 3 seemed like a slam-dunk purchase. It is not. The cover artwork is complete amateur hour and when I found cheesy computer simulation/drawings inside, I knew they had phoned this one in.The only reason I'll keep it at this point is to have the complete set...

Fascinating, Comprehensive and Superb!
I bought this book for my son's birthday - he is a tank buff with a particular interest in German fighting weapons of WWII.This book is more about the behind the scenes of a Tiger tank regiment in my view and its very interesting. We came face to face with a Tiger (131) at Bovington of course. I remember watching it has it turned and came towards where we were standing. Being an Englishman and never being allowed to forget the war, I found the hairs on the back of my neck begin to prick up and a certain urge to run for cover (the Panzer III also in the arena that day had given up the ghost and broken down looked positively cute in comparison). What a beast! The book is befittingly huge - like its subject matter (don't drop it on your foot!) and it will keep my son/you occupied for hours if not days (it will get him off his phone and laptop that's for sure). It's very well written and put together plus also uses first hand accounts of those who served in them to bring history to life. You get the sense that there was a strong sort of cavalry ethos in these tank units but instead of feeding and looking after horses, they were looking after man made machines instead, meeting their every need and requirement. The book leaves no stone unturned and I'm sure that all the reader has to do afterwards is buy a Tiger and get stuck in (you'll need some friends too)! The book also reveals that this most iconic of tanks had its weaknesses, as did the men who manned them. Cue photographs of Tigers having fallen off railway wagons, getting bogged down in mud and falling victim to weak bridges and bad driving technique or error. The Tiger for all its formidable reputation was only as good as the men inside it. And there is also evidence in the book too from those who fought the Tiger and how they learnt what its weaknesses were. The pictures inside the factories where they were built are also included and women were on the production line too. Therefore the book also humanises the Tiger - we see the men and women who serviced and operated them and the organisation needed to support them into action. It was a truly tactical weapon. The Tiger was much more than a tank - it was also the summation of the human beings behind it - a way of life. It was also a psychological weapon too.The only down side of course is that the Tiger was also the creation of the awful Nazi regime and we must not forget that. In fact Adolf himself was involved in its development - the source I believe of some of the more impractical elements of the Tiger's operation (for example its weight). The focus of the book however is not ideological - it is about the practicalities of using the tanks and keeping them running - which was quite a challenge to those who worked with them.So in some way the book also intentionally or unintentionally demystifies the Tiger and the men that manned them somewhat and I think that that is a good thing. No longer is the Tiger as invulnerable as it was made out to be.Highly recommended.

A must book for Tiger in Combat Volume I & II owners
A must book for Tiger in Combat Volume I & II ownersI've always been interested in armoured warfare having served in the one of the world's elite armoured formations myself. Wolfgang Schneider's Tigers In Combat III: Operation, Training, Tactics books is a natural continuum for Tigers in Combat Volumes I & II. Hence it is a must book for the owners of Tigers in Combat Volumes I & II.Tigers In Combat III book is published by Helion & Company Ltd and printed on high quality glossy paper in 31.3 cm x 23.2 cm format, which is easy to read. It has total of 512 pages and over 1200 black/white and color photographs topped with drawings of Tiger Is & Tiger IIs. The book was originally published already in 2013 by Verlag Wolfgang Schneider as Tiger im Kampf Band III and Helion & Company Ltd's English version was published in 2016, ISBN: 978-1-910777-97-8.Breaking down the detailed contents of the book briefly:Foreword by Colonel Wolfgang SchneiderChapter 1 The Establishment and Structure of the Tiger Units (with subheadings from page 7 to page 76)Chapter 2 Training (with subheadings from page 77 to page 138)Chapter 3 Operating the Tiger (with subheadings from page 139 to page 258)Chapter 4 Deployment (with subheadings from page 259 to page 318)Chapter 5 Tactics (with subheadings from page 319 to page 482)AnnexAmendments to Volumes I & II (from page 483 to page 508)Literature List (page 509)Reports by Individual Tiger Units (page 510)List of Regulations and Manuals (from page 511 to page 512)Tigers In Combat III serves as an excellent reference for historians, armor buffs and model builders alike. All in all, Wolfgang Schneider's Tigers In Combat III: Operation, Training, Tactics book seems to be a real labor of love work and an extremely enjoyable reading. I'm also quite positive that this book, Tigers In Combat III, will become a highly sought after book in the future as have both previous Tigers in Combat Volume I & II books become. Definitely, this is a must book for Tiger in Combat Volume I & II owners.Highly recommended!

Very good, perhaps essential reference
At the start there was a lot of commonality with content that had already been in "Germany's Tiger Tanks: Tiger I and Tiger II - Combat Tactics – 31 Jan 1998 by Thomas L. Jentz ". As you read further though information shows up that has never been brought out in books on Tigers before - procedures for cold starting, different methods of starting, mixes of petrol, special tools needed for maintenance tasks - it just keeps going - the detail is about as good as you could ever hope for if you had never had to climb into and use a vehicle like this. There are also a huge number of (usually small scale) photographs giving context to the first class information - other than the weird exploding tiger on the back cover this sets a new standard for references on the Tiger

tiger
i have 44 books on the tiger 4 of which are by herr schneider who gives a balanced asessment on the tiger.this book is a steal at this price as it cover everything you need to know from the starting sequence to the field mod that enabled the tank commander to turn the turret electrically. herr schneider has retired from active service and this is his last book which for me is the ultimate book to own on the tiger which endorses its reputation as a devastating weapon used by elite troops who were all volunteers till the end of the war.
