The Home Owner's Manual: Operating Instructions, Troubleshooting Tips, and Advice on System Maintenance

I'm a fan of these books, I own the Baby Manual, Toddler Manual oh yeah, and the dog manual. I've purchased a few of these for gifts as well and always get a great reaction. I have a graphics design background and the diagrams that are within are simple and great. I love how the authors simplify and categorize tips and advice. This should be on any home owners' shelf, mind you not as their only "Home Owner's Manual" but as a quick reference and an reminder to not be so uptight.

Bought this book for an engineer friend who recently moved into his first house (after many years of apartment living). The writing style makes it geek-friendly, and provides a way to ease into home maintenance - definitely not a full guide, more an intro and demystification for those who've never had to think about caring for a home before.

I purchased this as a gift for my sister and her husband for Christmas shorty after they bought their first home. It was a hit, they were thrilled.

Very good overview if you're a first time home buyer. Not too over your head so it's definitely worth the read.

This book really was disappointing. The graphics were nice but the info was thin... Very thin.For instance , toward the beginning, there is a section on buying a house. In that section, there is a checklist for you to rate the different areas and systems within the house, but never was there any mention in the book about how to rate them. What is a new homeowner to look for and how to tell if something is in okay shape or excellent shape... Or maybe it's barely hanging on.If you are expecting a true "Owner's Manual", like for a car, this isn't it.

I bought this as a homecoming gift for my husband. He's never actually used it though, so I feel weird giving this four stars. But when I flipped through, it had everything he could possibly need.

Got this book as a new home buyer. If it was written for simpletons it succeeded.
