Xikar HumiStore Crystal 250 Humidity Regulator

I've had several of these in my humidors for the past 10 years and they are the the only thing I would use. I am in southern Arizona where the humidity can be down to one percent, so it's quite the challenge keeping my sticks in the proper humidity. For me, they keep it between 63 and 65% humidity. And believe me, they work hard to keep the humidity at that high level considering our climate here. Just be sure to use the recommended solution so that the beds stay healthy and don't dry up.

These work REALLY well. The Gel keeps a constant 68% (indicated by my digital Xikar hydrometer) humidity in my humidor. I have a pretty big display case humidor and I use three of these gel packs in it. I usually only have to fill one of these guys up because they will not only release humidity, but accumulate humidity as well if it is too high. That is why I like them so much, it would be really hard to over do it.

I bought this style Xikar humidifier a few months ago and have had mixed results so far. I bought it with the Xikar PG solution and followed the directions on how to charge it. When I checked it a month later in my humidor, almost all the gel pieces were gone. I contacted Xikar to see if I did something wrong, but have so far received no reply. I have had nothing but GOOD LUCK with Xikar products in the past...3 X cutters, 2 009 punches, a VX cutter, 2 lighters, and my new ashtray can...even their line of HC cigars are great! This was my first Xikar humidifier and so far it's been a bit of a disappointment since others that were less expensive had lasted a few years minimum. UPDATE 6/5/2012: It seems I wasn't adding enough PG solution to the gel thereby not saturating them enough to expand fully within the container. Xikar answered my email with an explanation of the person handling the inquiries was on vacation and my email was caught in their SPAM folder upon their return...totally reasonable explanation. They cheerfully offered a replacement, before I tried adding more solution, saying they had no other issues like this which is why I decided to try again. It is now working perfectly and I recharge it about every 2-4 weeks. I now gave it a 4 star rating (up from 3 stars) as I want to see how long it lasts for the dollars spent.

I use this in tandem with a gel container and it does a nice job keeping the humidity in my home humidor.

This unit can easily replace the rectangular green foam-like humidifier that often comes with a 100-count size humidor, and can be magnetically secured inside the lid. Just add distilled water and you're good to go. The beads make the proper humidification dissipate slowly and gently, taking away the highs and lows of the ol' hockey pucks. Highly recommend!

There are not nearly enough gel crystals in these. The instructions state, when delivered, the dry gel crystals are about 1/2 the size as when hydrated. That would mean the unit should be about 1/2 full of the dried gel crystals. However, there are very few dried crystals in the unit. I purchased a generic version of these same humidifiers and it contained at least 4-5 times as many of the dried gel crystals AND it was 1/3 the cost of these Xikar units. See the attached picture - the 3 small areas circled are the only crystals and they're only 1/8 - 3/16 inch thick.

This is fantastic to keep your cigar/ humidor at the right level. Be aware!!! This is to maintain the humidity level on large humidor. On small humidor (100) or less it needs to be removed after a few days. Esto es fantástico para mantener su cigarro/humidor en el nivel correcto. ¡¡¡Sé consciente!!! I gave this item 5 stars as it works exactly as described. I placed this Humidified in a 100 count cuban crafters box and 3 days later I had 68%-70% RH that held consistently at those levels. Only complaint is that they item is advertised as pre-charged. Mine came out of the package at around 25% charge. Once I refilled with the Xikar PG solution to full it only needs to be topped off every month or so. Great product keeps my cigars perfectly and is easy to fill and use.
