This does exactly what the commercial says about being able to close it while pulling it into a cracked car door. However, the expanded size is too small for use by more than one person, even my preschooler when she's walking next to me. It's not push-button auto-open so you have to push it all the way out with both hands before switching to one-hand use. I'm still practicing how to use it one-handed as I've failed several times in the month since I bought it (let it fall backwards behind my head, hit other people with it, etc.) Furthermore, it doesn't stand up by itself like the commercial claims unless you have the tie around the bell open. Very good compared to the standard umbrella and definitely worth the extra dough, but not quite up to my expectations.
