Smith & Wesson M&P Delta Force PL-10 Aircraft Aluminum Tactical Pen with 105 Lumens Flashlight for Survival, Hunting, Outdoor and EDC

This pen is absolutely fantastic and exactly what I was looking for. This is my first review ever after looking at 1000's of reviews throughout my life. I needed a pen that I could access quickly as I document frequently at my job. With a quick twist of the Delta I have my pen ready to write. I found this feature hard to find in other flashlight pens. I also needed this device to be lightweight so I could put it on my lanyard and access it readily without the weight becoming a nuisance. This fits the bill as it is very light and the clip sturdy and smooth to clip and unclip quickly. The 3rd feature that I had to have was a light that was bright and blinding in case I needed to use it as a defense tool. I work 3rd shift and do nightly perimeter checks and need this feature for that as well. This light is BRIGHT and will absolutely disorient anyone when flashed into their eyes. For such a small and light product I could not be more happy with the Deltas power. I would say the only thing that I could say might be a small issue is if someone carries this in a pocket as the light can sometimes rotate when moved around a lot and turn on. Since I have this on a Lanyard this has not been a problem for me as I make sure that I have turned it off with a full roation of the pen. This product deserves to be among the top Tactical Flashlight pens on the market. Well done Smith and Wesson.

These are well made with quality material.. Not junk like the other ones. It's pretty useful, I use it at work.

It's a solid Pen, nice smooth Ink. It came with an Energizer Battery. I couldn't figure out which way to put the battery in. No matter which way I put it in, it didn't work. Finally, I found a very tiny diagram inside the battery compartment. It said to put the + side up toward the top of the Pen. It still wouldn't work. I grabbed one of my batteries, put it in, and it worked fine. It's quite bright for a Flashlight/Pen.

Overall, this pen doesn't seem too bad. I'm a gun-guy so with all the options out there for tactical pens, it was an ALMOST obvious choice to support out American gun manufacturers. Plus, I've had a great experience with Smith & Wesson's original SWAT folding knife as a 20+ year EDC.Granted, not all things Smith & Wesson are awesome, but as stated above, I've had good experiences with this brand as well as wanting to support it, although it was probably mass produced in a Chinese plant, cranking out these for other companies to be relabelled as well. You do what you can I suppose.On to the actual review:Granted, this pen is machines from aluminum, and aluminum is light in comparison with other metals, but I was expecting a little more weight. It definitely feels heavier than a plastic pen, but feels like a heavy polymer. Whether you like heavier pens or lighter pens is a matter of opinion. I like the, a little heavier, but I didn't give this pen less marks for this fact.The darn thing didn't come with a battery! At least the cheap Chinese products out there give you a cheap starter battery so you can play with your new gadget straight away! Ok, that was my first impression. The battery was attached to the back of the packaging. And can you believe it? It's a name brand battery (Energizer)! Way to go! This is actually one of two factors that made me rate this product a 3-star instead of a 2-star rating. I was a little frustrated because I didn't have a AAA battery on hand so I couldn't test it out, but nope. It was a pleasant surprise.Having said that, I was skeptical as to how bright and usable the LED was. The LED is a TINY little thing and not a lot of juice behind it. Well, once I found the AAA battery, I tested the LED. It's no SureFire P6, but it is actually quite bright for a little LED. I turned off the light in my 12x12 office and I got a 2 foot wide spot with plenty enough bleed-off light to see where you're going and do what you need to do. Another plus for this LED tactical pen, the second reason why this pen is rated 3-stars.I can't speak on the DNA retention feature as I haven't had to use it as such and I hope not to. However, just feeling it with my fingers, it'll do the job. That's all I can say about that.This pen, which is it's what it's primary function is, writes OK. To review on HOW it writes would really be a review on the ink cartridge so I'll really leave it at that. Everyone had a personal preference on this. It's nice to know that the you SHOULD be able to find refills at any local office supply store. I wouldn't know for a fact since I haven't gone to look, but the ink cartridge is a very popular brand (Zebrra) of ink cartridge found at Office Depots and the like. It's unfortunate that I just purchased a load of Parker in cartridges for another pen.Some sour notes, and what gave a drastic fall of stars after all the good had been said would be the activation mechanisms for the LED flash light and ink tip. They are just screw types. So, to turn on the flashlight is the same action as tightening the cap. This means in order to NOT accidentally run down your battery and not have it when you need it, the pen cap needs to be loose at all times, outside of actual use. You can definitely feel the pressure of the o-ring, but it's still pretty loose, and claims of being waterproof (up to 1m), I'm a little skeptical. I feel any flash light that claims to be waterproof to any degree should have a sealed button instead of relying on the body's threads, especially when it is thin-walled aluminum. Over time, the metal will warp and deform upon use as well as deflection due to the cap being "loose" most of its life.The pen-tip is the same. The ink-end is hidden by loosening the pen, and all things said about the flashlight end applies here. I have a cheap company-awarded pen (I purchased just purchased the Parker cartridges for) which even has two separate actions for the cartridge. The body is screwed in to the top securely, then has a secondary twist to extend and retract the ink tip. I think this is also dependent on the cartridge, since the Parker cartridge has a cam at the top of it and the Zebra does not. Smith & Wesson should have gone this route.Lastly, this is just a cosmetic thing but sometimes it's about the details. The "M&P by Smith&Wesson" logo shown in the Amazon photo was Photoshopped. Think about it, how can you silkscreen that clearly over a knurl? You can't. The logo itself is barely legible. This is important for branding as over time, the logo will have worn off and no one will ever know it was a Smith&Wesson product. If you don't care about that, that's fine, but it just looks bad... meaning, it looks dirty and an after-thought. Again, granted this is a $20 Smith&Wesson pen and not a $50 SureFire tactical pen but at least SureFire machined a flat surface and laser-engraved their logo for life-time branding.All in all, this pen has a lot of short-comings and LOTS to be desired, but it's an OK starter tactical pen.*****************************************Update*****************************************After using this pen for a little while, it actually doesn't take long to realize this:1. This pen is extremely long, in comparison to an average pen you may want to carry. I carry my pen(s) in my front pocket, next to my EDC. It seems LONG in the pocket and it feels weird. I understand they had to fit an ink cartridge, a battery, a LED, and a driver. That's a lot to stuff in a pen-body.2. The ergonomics is not real good. The pen itself is still pretty light but when you actually write with it, it's highly unbalanced so it makes the top very heavy. Having said that, the only place it feels vaguely comfortable is when you hold at it the tip (where the DNA retention edges are), which is really close to the tip. It reminds me of how THEY teach little kids how to hold a pencil. Also having said that, imagine if you actually NEEDED to use this pen as a tactical device and did collect someone's DNA. Now the only comfortable position to hold this pen is where that person's DNA was. I think this pen would go into the garbage or in Police Evidence at that point.3. Due to how the LED cap goes on, I've been noticing when I use the pen and set it on the desk, the LED flashes. It is understandable how this works but it's a bit accoying.

every once in a while you jump on the Amazon and order a product and what you get is a complete and total piece of garbage. That's what this is. 1. The flashlight does not work. Okay you know defective products happen. The problem is even if it did work it would be such garbage I would still send it back. In fact anytime that you add this to your cart Amazon should automatically crash your browser, Jeff should call you and offer you $40 to keep you from spending the 20 on this dumb pen. The design is so poor that the US patent office should keep this locked in the vault 50 feet underground with an entire platoon of armed soldiers guarding it just to keep somebody from seeing it. You twist to open the pen on the bottom but if you twist too much it comes apart for refilling the cartridge. 7 out of the 10 times I twisted it while I was trying to figure it out, mainly because it's so unintuitive what you need an entire 40 hour Work week I've trained to learn how to use it, the pen got stuck out. so when you twisted it back it would stay open. you have to completely dismantle it and then it would spring away from the spring being stuck. The pen light on mine did not even work. I put the battery in, which was included, and tried to figure out how to turn it on and there was no way. Then the genius that they chose to design the bottom of the pen, made the same thing up top worth twisted too much then the twisting it too much, then the top compartment opens. so I thought maybe I was doing it wrong but then I realized the pen was hot because the battery was discharging. For everyone that attempts to get this pen into their cart without Jeff bezos being able to intervene and send you $40, there should be a Fail-Safe that causes you to have a seizure and Amazon covers all your medical bills

feels very sturdy, durable. the flashlight is bright too.i hope i will never use it, but it can definitely stab someone pretty hard.

Muy resistente el material y en general se siente muy bien, la linterna es muy potente, gente se queja del problema de que se puede quedar encendida pero tienes que ser más que un tonto para que te pase eso (excelente adquisición) (ya llevo un año con ella y sigue funcionando al 100)

my only comment is that the pen heats up when the battery is installed therefore my husband has removed the battery. Too worried about it catching on fire.
