3 shape rice ball maker makes food fun for young kids
My kids are very passionate rice-mold fans...hence I have 2 rice shapers. The first one only makes a heart. We bought it at our local Japanese grocery store for about $3. We also have this one. As a comparison, this rice baller maker is great in that you can make 3 different shapes. However, the molds are smaller. Whereas the standalone 'heart rice' mold is big enough to be a complete serving for my kids (ages 4-7) when using these molds I need 2 shapes to make 1 kid-sized serving. Additionally the standalone mold has a more crisp shape output.Either way - I am a big fan of making food fun for my kids. It seems to make them more adventurous in trying new foods. If you want to find similar kid food accessories then do a "bento" or "bento box" search on Amazon or Google. You'll get lots of ideas.

Wonderful and fun.
I purchased this product more then four years ago, when my daughter was in preschool. I purchased the egg mold with them. I have to say I love this product. Mine did not come with instructions, or if it did - I lost them before the first use. This is how I use the product (that's right they still work four years later): I make short grain rice (like sushi rice) one cut of rice to 1 1/4 cups water. While still hot I put them into the molds, pack them in. I let it set for a few minutes and then I take the lid off and push them out onto a plate. Works great. Works great for an easy and inexpensive lunch for my kids. Hardboiled animal shaped egg, one or two rice shapes, grapes and some seaweed sheet snacks. They like it, I like it. Its a win.

Great rice mold maker!
This is a perfect little rice ball maker. The mold is easy to use -- just scoop in the rice, put on the lid, and squeeze the bottom to make perfectly shaped rice balls. The rice slides out easily and keeps the shape very well. I don't even have to be perfect about filling the mold, it works even if some rice is over the edges. I just have to wipe off the extra grains before refilling it. The rice balls hold together best if I use sticky rice (Japanese, sushi, cal rose, etc), and they hold together in a bento/lunch box even if an energetic 5 year old boy is carrying it. I was able to use it to make shapes with non-sticky basmati rice, but they do crumble apart as soon as a fork touches them. It is also easy to clean and I have been able to put it in the top rack of the dishwasher without any trouble.

Good Quality Convenient Rice Ball Maker.
It's so convenient to make rice balls. All I need to do is to load the rice, close the cover, press the bottom and then push them out. The bottom is removable, therefore making it very easy to get rice balls out.I've tried making rice balls by hand as I've seen in the Japanese TVs, but most of times the rice is too hot and sticky, making every experience a little complicated. But now with this little helper, making rice balls is so much easier and fast. This mode is quite small. I can pack 6 or so in a 13 oz bento lunch box. Probably about 1 cup of sushi rice from rice cooker. I've also tried making bear eyes and noses by cutting seaweed sheet. They look adorable. Would recommend it.

Gets the kids to eat.
So much fun. My daughter doesn't like sandwhiches in her lunch so I've had to get inventive. Making these onigiri has been a huge hit and the shapes make the lunch extra appetizing for her. A bit of effort but making 3 at once saves some time. Add a bit of nori and she's a happy kindergartner.

Makes rice real pretty
Because I needed one more thing to complicate the lunchbox prep, I bought this. I'm not the type to carve flowers out of melon balls but I do enjoy culinary crafts that are easy. When we have a surplus of cooked white rice (brown rice doesn't bind as well), I will bang out some of these for my 3 yr old. It takes time to pack, press, and push the rice through the molds so this treat is reserved for when mommy has lots of patience or needs to do something that doesn't involve thinking. My daughter gets a kick out of the special rice and I have fun playing with her food.

Perfect shapes every time
We just used regular rice, brown and white, and were very happy with the results. We tried the sticky rice and it held even better to the point of being able to pick it up to eat it. Just pack what ever rice you use in firmly. You could even make a whole batch up ahead and place in refrigerator to make prep time faster. The mold is fast to use as well as easy. We started to color the rice to add more color to the lunch. Very fun very appetizing. quick clean up. Will be ordering more.
