Instrumental post-rock group Signal Hill return with their third full-length album, Alturas, three years after releasing 2013's Chase the Ghost (Sun Sea Sky Productions). Originally formed in Los Angeles in 2004, Signal Hill later branded itself with success as a bi-coastal group with members spread out in both Brooklyn, NY and Los Angeles, CA. During the writing and production of Alturas, they had a new challenge with guitarist/keyboardist Rishi Arora's move to East London in 2014. While holding on to familiar melodies and driving rhythms that most fans associate with the group, Alturas mines new sonic territory and shows the band expanding their sound, utilizing more piano, keyboards, and synths in creating their most textured and atmospheric record to date. RIYL: Tristeza, The Mercury Program, Explosions in the Sky, Christie Front Drive.

A ride on the waves.
Solid progression. The band continues to find areas that are interesting and engaging. Everything in the track flows together and offers something for everyone. All in all, in shows the band is growing/maturing and know what they are good at while not rehashing what previous albums have done. All in all, you should probably buy this album.

Good, but not their best.
I just keep chasing the high of the "More After We're Gone" album by Signal Hill. This is a good, listenable album, but it doesn't thrill me like my favorite of theirs. If you like "Chase the Ghost" by Signal Hill, this is another solid album in that caliber.
