Perfect invention for a small deck!
I have a deck that receives full sun after noon & I wanted an umbrella for some shade but the deck is small & the bases have such a big footprint. I was so happy to find this, it's such a great idea! It was very easy to install (it did come with some instructions), it took me maybe 5 min. to mount it to the deck rail & get the umbrella set up. It is so sturdy & is awesome for my umbrella, I can now enjoy my deck in the afternoon & evening without being baked by the sun!HOWEVER... even though I had tightened the bracket that holds the umbrella as tightly as I could, it apparently was not as tight as it needed to be because on the second time having the umbrella open on a windy day a gust of wind lifted that sucker straight up in the air & up over the roof of my 3rd floor condo! It looked like something from Mary Poppins!! After the initial shock wore off it was quite funny, it got stuck on the roof & I finally had to call the fire dept. to retrieve it before it came down & did damage to property or people. So I had to figure out another way to make sure the umbrella pole was secure. I thought the smooth aluminum of the pole against the metal bracket didn't have quite enough friction to keep it from being lifted so effortlessly by the wind so I thought some type of grippy rubber might work. I found some of those gel heel guards for women's shoes, they are the perfect size strip to fit in the bracket & actually allow me to tighten it more... that umbrella feels VERY secure now & I think the rubber is the perfect thing to make it even more so, I seriously doubt that it'll be taking off again! I think I'll suggest to the manufacturer that they should add something like that to the design, the bracket honestly is a great invention!!

Simply Perfect for a small patio/balcony
I can't sing enough praises for this product. It's rare that you find something so simple that so perfectly meets your needs and so inexpensively. My balcony is about 4x18ft and gets a lot of direct sunlight throughout the day. I didn't want to waste space with a bulky umbrella stand and this allows you to perfectly mount an umbrella to the railing (obviously double check your measurements - it won't work with all railings, but as I recall the description is very clear on compatibility).Im on the second floor, so for the first few months I kept the mount on the inside of my balcony just in case it every slipped and fell it would land on my balcony. After many rains and heavy winds, I was pretty confident I could keep it mounted to the outside to save even more space and so far 0 incident.I'll probably eventually get 2 more of these so i can easily move my parasol along any portion of my balcony.

Holds my 9 ft umbrella well
This is a simple solution to the problem of attaching a patio umbrella to a deck. The device is solid and easy to mount. It is also easy to move, if necessary. The only issue I have is that the round balusters on my deck railing turn (no fault of the product), so to prevent the mount from swinging back and forth in the wind, I used a small length of vinyl covered cable and a cable clamp to connect it to another baluster . See the picture.

That mount is one strong device!
Really good product, and a great idea - but deck spindles are the least sturdy part of the railing. If mounting a large umbrella (10' or more), the spindle will not hold up to the abuse. The mount will. It is extremely well madeAfter a couple of months watching the umbrella sway quite a lot in mild breezes, I noticed that the spindle was flexing as it took the load. We sometimes took turns holding the umbrella shaft when the wind picked up.I finally removed the mount from the spindle and screwed the mount directly to one of the uprights (a 4x4). What's great about this is that the mount provides the perfect offset to get the umbrella shaft passed my rail cap, which sticks a couple of inches out from the upright. After I put the umbrella back up, I couldn't believe how much more secure it was. That mount is one strong device! And now I don't worry about the spindle breaking, or the umbrella moving too much when the wind kicks up.

Works great; won’t move in the wind. Wish it had thin rubber shins
Product fits fine and works as described and is durable. I would rate this a solid A rating. One nice thing would be if there were rubber guards on the inside to protect items with painted rust coatings from getting scratched. It’s not a product problem, but metal on metal is going to scratch in wind conditions and bracketing tight enough. This would also help protect painted metal railings. Thin rubber guards/shims would make this an A++ item.I finally want to shout out that the item was packaged with care in mind from the main bracket to the pieces. Came in pristine condition.

Love this product!
I got this product because the umbrella I got kept falling out of the stand. It was laying on my deck and I was getting frustrated. The mount has been amazing! We had a really bad storm two days ago and it’s still standing! It’s very windy where I live, the umbrella has stayed up. It was easy to install, no tools needed. And where you mount it keeps it out of site. Gives you lots of options for where you want the umbrella. The heavy round base holder I had didn’t allow me many options.

Holds umbrella in place
Had to buy longer screws to fit on banister.

Easy to install; versatile; works perfectly
I used this to mount a birdseed catching tray over my deck rail. It worked perfectly, installed in minutes, and seems very sturdy. Our deck rail supports have a lifetime vinyl covering, so I cut a little strip of Rubbermaid drawer liner for each of the clamps that went on them to protect the vinyl from the metal clamps, but it all tightened up snugly. I’ll probably check the wingnuts every few months just to be sure they are staying tight, but this was a great solution for this project. Would definitely buy again.
