Schrodt Designs Model HBL-A Amethyst Hummingbird Feeder

Loved it initially but the wood top and bottom started looking bad with mildew and splits, even thogh I cleaned and oiled as directed. Great in the beginning but retired after 2 seasons.

After about 8 years of use, we now have six of these feeders and the hummers love 'em as much as we do. They look much nicer than the typical red plastic dollar store specials. They come in several colors so make sure to check out the bottle colors. We use a tablespoon or two of aquarium gravel to clean them.IF you run into a raccoon or bear issue, the bottom can be pulled off by the critters with little or no damage to the feeder... so long as boo-boo doesn't want to chew the wooden top (only happened once)After about three years of active duty, the wooden top and bottom benefit from a little sanding a fresh coat or two of quality outdoor varnish... then the entire setup looks brand new again :)They also make great gifts for anyone that enjoys hummingbirds.

Update 8/23/13: Downgrade to 1 star. Hummers come and look at it but won't feed. The little flowers appear to not be 'red' or 'yellow' enough to entice them. It's going into the give-away box :-(Wife's least favorite color, so we're a bit disappointed. Amethyst would have been nice since that's what we ordered. Birds haven't discovered it yet, but it appears robust and easy to fill/clean.

This hummingbird feeder was exactly what we expected after ordering it. Unfortunately the hummingbirds had already left our area before I put the feeder out. So I'm very excited to see them enjoy our feeder next season.

Love this feeder. It is beautiful and easy to fill. Need a bottle brush to be sure it is really clean.

Lovely, easy to fill and clean, this is a perfect feeder! I am thinking of buying a few more soon!
