Lycopene is a carotenoid, which is a natural red pigment that gives some vegetables and fruits their color, most notably the tomato. Lycopene is an antioxidant, and those who eat tomato-rich diets (such as those in Italy and neighboring Mediterranean areas) tend to have healthy and long lives. How much of this is directly attributed to lycopene remains unclear, but the antioxidant properties are well known, preventing cell damage. If you eat a lot of tomatos in your diet, you won't benefit much from a supplement like this one, but if you don't eat a lot of tomatos or tomato products, a supplement is a good way to get metabolizable lycopene. There's little downside: excess quantities (massive amounts, really) of lycopene can actually turn your skin an orange color (a condition called lycopenemia) but it won't hurt you. Taking a supplement like this Jamieson one won't cause lycopenemia! There's some evidence that for men, higher levels of lycopene help prevent or control prostate cancer.The quality of this supplement seems high, although I have not tested it clinically. Personally, I take one of these lycopene supplements every day, and recommend them for my family.

I am unable to eat acidics foods. Tomatoes have a lot of nutritional value. This pill form is easy to swallow and does not upset your tummy. I like this brand and they have been around for many years. I highly recommend this for of getting super nutritional supplements.
