iCrimp Micro Connector Pin Crimping Tool 0.03-0.5mm² Ratcheting Crimper for D-Sub, Open Barrel suits Molex, JST, JAE

I've wrestled with cheap crimpers for years, the kind that mash the connector rather than crimp it, leave you with intermittent connections and generally make a frustrating job even more so. The iCrimp Micro Connector Crimping Tool has completely changed how I approach connector work on the bench. The ratcheting mechanism is the single biggest upgrade over generic crimpers. It won't release until the crimp cycle is fully completed, which means every single crimp is consistent and properly formed. No more second guessing whether you applied enough pressure or accidentally released early. Once you've used a proper ratcheting crimper it's impossible to go back. The range of 0.03 to 0.5mm² covers an impressive spread of wire gauges and the die selection handles D-Sub, open barrel and a solid range of micro connectors that come up constantly in electronics work. I've used it on JST, Dupont and various automotive style open barrel terminals and every result has been clean, mechanically strong and electrically reliable. Build quality is immediately obvious when you pick it up. The tool feels substantial and precise, the jaws align perfectly, and the ratchet action is smooth and positive throughout the stroke. It feels like a professional grade tool rather than an entry level hobbyist purchase. For anyone working with small gauge wiring on PCB harnesses, RC electronics, automotive looms or any kind of custom connector work, the precision this tool brings is immediately noticeable. Stripped insulation is gripped cleanly, the conductor crimp folds correctly and the retention tab sets firmly every time. The ergonomics are comfortable even during extended sessions and the handles provide enough leverage that crimping smaller terminals doesn't require excessive effort. My only minor note is that the included die options, while comprehensive for most common work, may not cover every proprietary connector type. Worth checking your specific terminal dimensions against the spec before ordering. Bottom line: An outstanding crimping tool that produces professional results consistently. If you do any volume of connector work at all, the step up in quality and reliability over a basic crimper is immediately worth the investment. One of the best tool purchases I've made for the bench.

Bought to replace my non-rachet crimping tool which I lost. This has been a great upgrade, doing both crimps in one go for various JST connectors (I've done the PH, XT and 1.25 variants so far and all crimped well first time).

Possibly early days to be boasting of 100% success rate with these, but I've crimped about 20 connections so far and they have all worked ! I spent a long time trying to get my previous crimper (SN-28B copy) to crimp anything and they almost always failed; this crimper on the other hand has produced perfect crimps every time ! Be aware that there were no instructions supplied with this item, which was a little annoying, but if you look at the "Crimping Guidance" image accompanying the listing you'll see how the barrels need to be inserted into the crimper and from there it's fairly straightforward. I would advise that you prepare the barrels beforehand by making sure that the "wings" are parallel to each other (as supplied, mine tended to be splayed a little too far) and then insertion into the crimper is a whole lot easier. I think the crucial thing about these crimpers is that they "fold" the wings onto the sheathing and therefore bring everything in together nicely. Excellent product!

Crimps Dupont with ease.

They work fine, not as good as the much more expensive single op tool; and no ratchet. Do the job and ok for a small number of crimps where you can take your time.

If you like crimp tools this is sex on a stick, or possibly on a handle! Very well made it dies those tiny crimps on JST and Wurth connectors. Much ! Cheaper than the regular tools. Works well.

Perfect crimping of JST connectors as you can see in the photo. Certainly very helpful that is crimps both parts of the connector at once with different sizes so that there is proper contact between the wire and the sheath. Very good value, and made creating new stepper wires for my 3D printer an easy task.

I tested this on the Molex SL crimp contacts (for the 0.100" square headers) and JST XH contacts (the typical LiPo battery balance connector) on 22AWG PVC wire. The 1.6mm opening works with the Molex SL and 2.0mm MOSTLY works with the JST XH. The caveat with the JST XH is that the insulation grips are crimped to be slightly too wide to fit into the crimp housing so you have to take a pair of pliers and ever so slightly squish it sideways. I looked at the crimps under a microscope and both the conductor and insulation fingers looked neatly and cleanly rolled for both types of contacts. I did pull tests but don't have a force scale nor the official pull-force test pliers from Molex. What I did was pull on the connector in a vise until the wire came out and then pulled on a luggage scale in the vice until it felt the same. I don't know what the JST XH spec is but the Molex SL spec is 8.82lbs for 22AWG. Therefore I used that specification for both connectors. My test runs for the Molex SL resulted in 50%, 75%, and 150% of the specified pull force. The test runs for the JST XH resulted in 50%, 60% and 100%. I am not sure how consistent the official crimper would be. I should also add that even though it does not have a positioner like the official tools, the die is of the proper thickness for the both Molex SL and JST XH so all you have to do is line up the end of the crimp (wire-side) with the edge of the die. So no need to position the crimp contact midway in the die. The parallel jaws and EDM cut die make a huge difference for these tiny contacts where any mos-positioning of the crimp terminal in the die, or inaccuracy in the die matters a lot more. The parallel jaws come straight down on the crimp contact which makes crimping much less of a hassle because the crimp terminal is much more likely to stay in position. With plier-type crimpers, the hinged jaws roll and tilt the crimp contact as it comes down. You can get away with a little tilt in larger contacts but with tiny contacts a little tilt throws things off a lot more and destroys the crimp. So other than having no positioner and needing a second slightly squeeze from the side for the JST XH contacts, you save But other than that it works at saves $500+ from the official crimp tools.

This is a nicely built crimper. I've used crimpers before but not this particular style. Amazon says, "comes with instructions", but not with my copy so I had to do a little trial and error to get good crimps without crushing the pin insert end of the connector. The numbers on my copy of the crimper differ slightly from the Amazon illustration with the largest being 2.0mm instead of the 1.9mm shown. No biggie. The tool has a good ratchet mechanism which is used to hold the connector in place while the wire end is inserted and then the crimp is finished. Makes great crimps. It's coated with some kind of lubricant which stains so be careful no to lay it on your prize tablecloth when taking it out of the protective plastic bag. Wiping it down doesn't help because there's more lubricant in the bag so it's coated again the next time you remove it. You probably don't want it lubricant free, because this lubricant probably contains a corrosion inhibitor to preserve the tool. Very good tool for the price and works well, but when crimping, be sure to check the insertion distance so the actual connector doesn't get crushed in the process.

Bought a blue crimper sometime ago and was never successful in crimping connectors without wasting connectors. Especially micro JST connectors, was persistent in trying100connectors and all failed. I almost concluded it is the fault on my part until I bought Iwiss crimper. I was successful with the first try.
