Great lock, less than great google nest
Install was quick and easy, it wasn't a perfect match for my door but with some tweaking I made it work. Main issue now is the weather strips on my door are a tad thick so the smart lock has a tendency to stop on the last 1/8th of an inch when locking and so it will say the door didn't lock, even though it did, it's only a sliver short of being fully engaged. That's not the locks fault though. The reason for 3 stars is the Nest Connect that came with it is (hopefully) a faulty model. It worked initially, but about 15 minutes after the full install the connect went offline and was unreachable. I removed it form the nest account and factory reset it, all seemed fine until I want to re-add it to the account, the phone (pixel 4 xl) could no longer detect it. I tried creating a new account, no dice. Tried my wifes iPhone, no dice, tried an iPad, no dice. Tried my kindle fire, no dice. Insert 3 hours of trying everything in a bag of tricks as a network admin with no luck. Ultimately got in touch with Google support and after a brief explanation of the issue and what I had done already to try to fix it they didn't make me go back through any troubleshooting, simply said they'd send me a slip to send mine back and they would send a replacement. If I get a new connect that is fully functional, the review will go up to 5 stars, the lock itself works great and I have zero complaints about that part of the package. Edit: just realized now a year later I neglected to update this. Google sent me a new functional nest extender and all worked after that, so the review.has been changed to give stars.

I would recommend this product.
Great lock. Does what is expected of it. Batteries we're used. irregardless and it does fine. It took a little bit for the installation. You have to be smarter than the device. We'll see how long the battery lasts.

Rock Solid Lock
Nest Yale Electronic Lock Iโve been through a few electronic deadbolts over the years, mainly the Kwikset Powerbolt and the Kwikset Smartcode, both of which utilize pressure pads. Although theyโve been reliable, the pressure pad does wear out over time and the Kwikset Smartcode lock goes through AA batteries very quickly, as in 3 months max. While I havenโt had the Nest lock long enough to determine its battery life longevity, I can say that literally, every other attribute about this lock is far superior to the Kwiksetโs that Iโve owned in the past. What I like: -Easy Install* -Bolt manually engages and disengages silky smooth, with no resistance. -Bolt points left-to-right when in the locked position, which is what Iโm use to, vice some locks that point up-down in the locked position. As a creature of habit, the left-to-right lockup gives me a good visual. -The 9v battery backup option is brilliant, because I can always pop the battery out of my garage door opener if needed due to battery failure on the lock. -Near silent operation. My other Kwikset lock was very loud, gas powered not weed eater loud, but loud. -Unlocks super fast, with almost zero wait time for entry. -Lock App is simple and not cluttered with a plethora of icons for seldom used features. -Smooth glass touch face is easy to activate and instantly responsive to touch. -A smartphone or tablet isnโt required to make the lock operational, although a smart devices is indeed necessary to access the App. *A note about installing the module: My lock wouldnโt initially pair with my module, if you run into this issue, try a few things first before giving up; -During setup, connect the module as instructed without plugging it into the wall, just push on the front of the module to activate the light. -If the module still isnโt recognized, relocate the module to a receptacle closer to the lock. -After the module is activated, when instructed to connect the lock to the module, ensure that you use the same access point that you used when activating the module. Some homes have different networks that auto switch to the strongest access point signal, so just double check that your phone or tablet hasnโt auto-switched to a different access point. What I donโt like: -Cost ~ This is a pricy lock considering that it has minimal features compared to other brand of flagship locks. Purchased for a good price during Black Friday, otherwise, I couldโve never justified the retail price, even though Iโm thoroughly impressed with the product thus far. -Google ~ Nest was bought out by Google, so itโs necessary to create a google account in order access the app features. -Styling ~ The outside portion of Nest Yale lock is spectacular. However, the same degree of sleek, minimalist styling wasnโt applied to the interior portion of the lock. Itโs not unattractive by any stretch, but itโs far from awe-inspiring compared to the effort that Yale achieved on the front side of the lock. -Would prefer a completely tool-less battery access panel. Overall, Iโm thrilled with the lock thus far, 5 Stars thrilled despite some of the shortfalls. However, if battery life turns out to be short, Iโll end up deducting a star.

Nice looking expensive piece of junk!
I got this with the impression that Yale was an high end lock and supposed to function without any issue. Definitely high end in term of pricing and aesthetics but as for functionality, it's more of an inferior product like the Dollar Tree stuff. Installation was fairly easy and simple. Connecting to WiFi wasn't difficult. It came with a nest connect hub that functions as a hub to connect to the WiFi. It was great for the first few days then the lock, not the hub, started to disconnect for no apparent reason. Had to remove battery to reconnect to WiFi. I did all the troubleshooting but the lock still does the same. It's definitely not the app or hub issue. The Yale lock is the issue. Apparently, many reviewers also gave this issue. I had brought this to use on my rental because I can remotely generate codes, lock and unlock from anywhere. I had to drive over so many times just to reset this damn lock. Finally gave up and brought another brand (Philip one with built in wifi) that was way cheaper and a million times more dependable. Never will I buy a Yale again.

Easy installation and works very well.
The install was easy of the hardware but the software did get a little tricky. Some of it was user error but once you figure out what you are doing, it's a breeze. I love that we can easily assign specific codes to each family member if we want to and we can do a guest code for a pet sitter while we are on vacation and change that code after we return. It also logs which family member/guest locked and unlocked the door so you always know who is entering the house. You can use the app to unlock or the keypad. This is totally keyless so be sure to have batteries on hand when the low battery warning comes on but if for some reason you failed on that part, you can use a 9 volt from the outside to operate it and unlock the door. It's really foolproof and you can't mess this up. Well worth every penny especially for a family on different schedules coming and going all hours of the day.

Great Lock, Painful Setup
This doorbell lock works really well and I love being able to lock/unlock via the app. Plus, itโs part of the Google ecosystem Iโm already using. I took off a star because it was THE BIGGEST PAIN EVER to set up. Installing it was super quick. But it literally took days to get the app side of things set up. Once itโs done, itโs great but be prepared for a huge headache at first. Note: This fully removes having a keyed deadbolt. So, if you want an electronic lock with a keyed backup, get something else.

Time to correct some peoples' misconceptions...
EDIT: I was mistaken about one detail, Google Assistant will NOT unlock the door, only lock. I had tried it that way and assumed it would work both directions but not-so. Doesn't affect my rating or view on it, just thought it'd be helpful info to provide. tl;dr: The negative reviewers probably couldn't tie their own shoelaces, and if you want to know why, read on. Normally I do a pro's and con's review, but after seeing the 'top review' on this product being a disparaging review stemming from his lack of knowledge on install and usage (which was all in the manual and app), I figured I'd make a review to respond. Here are the top bullet points of the other negative reviews and the reality of them: This is a half truth. If you install the strike plate so it misaligns with the deadbolt, it'll be finnicky about wanting to lock. With a dumb deadbolt, you can force it with your fingers. You wouldn't want the motor to force the lock as it'd burn it out quickly. This is entirely avoided by performing a proper install to begin with, which in my case just meant using a small flathead and hammer to knock some of the wood away where the strike plate was going to sit before screwing it on. And then the bit about needing a 9V? The lock itself is powered by 4 AA's, and it warns you well in advance when the lock needs a battery swap. If you let it die, you'd really have to be negligent. This is just flat out wrong. The difference is that the Nest's tailpiece has some leeway where it's attached to the turn assembly BECAUSE YOU COULDN'T INSTALL IT OTHERWISE. This amount of give is purely for install purposes and doesn't detract to the "locking security" of the deadbolt. The only way to break it is trying to purposely break it off or if you improperly tried to slot it through the bolt assembly. I'm sorry but that's like complaining a butter knife has no durability after stepping on one end and lifting the other end with your arm. Anyway. Hope this helps anyone looking to try this thing out. Maybe if some of the other reviewers read manual, they'd be sitting pretty right now, but y'know. The only difficulty I had was pairing the Nest Connect, and it was A-okay once I disconnected the Bluetooth headphones I was using during install.

looks great and works well except...
I love the color which matches my brass door knob and is aesthetically pleasing. It is fabulous looking. The installation was fairly easy. It will take you about 15-30 minutes to install it depending if it fits your door. The smart lock is not as bulky as the August smart lock. The device is pricey, but I got on on sale during Black Friday / Cyber Monday. I don't think I would pay over $250 for the device. My Nest Connect did not connect with device or my WIFI. I had to call Nest and they are sending me a replacement. So I have yet to see how it connects to my Nest account. Otherwise I can still manually add codes to the device and it is nice that it can talk and has autolock. Will see how long the AA battery life lasts before I have to replace them. Addendum: got new nest connect replacement which works great now. The lock doesnt lock fully and says errors, but still does the job. Maybe because of the cold weather. I had to realign the bolt and it works well now without error message.
