Kikaida Volume 2 [DVD]

Kikaida was one of a number of great Japanese kids’ shows from the 1970s. He was a robot created by DARK to take over the world who ended up turning upon his creators. He appears as Jiro the guitarist giving a speech to his enemies before transforming into Kikaida and fighting them. Each episode is almost all action with only the faintest of plots. That’s alight with me. The evil robots created by DARK are completely ridiculous and just meant for little kids. Nevertheless it’s great to see the fighting. I grew up watching Japanese TV shows like this as a kid so it creates a great sense of nostalgia for me.

great show - so cheesy its sublime - it borders on genius - a very solid slice of Japanese pop culture - an odd hero fighting even odder foes - if you are even remotely into this kind of show, buy this - you will be amazed at its audacity - and its sincerely done - played straight, not for laughs - this is the kind of thing that youd want playing on a big screen in the background at a house party - i would anyway - it would draw a crowd - in a similar vein i also recommend SUPER ROBOT RED BARON and IRON KING - and of course ULTRAMAN
