Shotgun Bore and Choke Gauge

Although it was $25 this appears to be a quality product.Made of one piece aluminum it is fairly idiot proof on how to use and determine the choke of your shotgun barrel.The alternative of not using this is to either: (1) guess, (2) accept what may be stamped on the barrel, (3) accept what the seller tells you the barrels are choked, or, (4) use an inside micrometer - take a measurement - then go to a chart - then do a math problem of subtracting your measurement from the full cylinder number. This is so much easier. I wish I had bought it years ago.Savannah WILL

Worked fine for me. I was leery to buy based on all the negative reviews, but it was accurate. Had a couple sxs’s I wasn’t positive the choke on, and now I know. I tested the gauge on a couple other chokes that I knew what were, and this gauge read the accurately.Seems like a pretty sturdy solid aluminum gauge. Wouldn’t worry too much about it getting bent or damaged easily. It’ll be left in the cabinet, but wouldn’t be concerned if it fell and hit the floor or anything. Looks like it could take a drop or two without damage.Glad I bought it. Just been guessing at it all these years.

I initially left a bad review of this item. And it still does not measure the 20ga chokes on my franchi affinity, but I no longer think it is the fault of the gauge. It is just that these chokes seem larger than the scale specified for this gauge.So the instrument seems good, but don’t expect all manufacturers to call a modified choke the same thing evidently.

I use it for checking the chokes on the vintage shotguns when looking for a SXS.

I use this at a gun store daily to check the gauge and barrel of used shotguns. Just remember that when you drop it in the barrel, you have to push down a little right at the end to get an accurate gauge. Best tool I have found so far.

I have a bunch of old SXSs and I can never figure out the bore size. I compared this with some know 12ga and 20ga chokes and the sizes were right on. The proper size will be almost too tight to get the gauge all the way in.

Complete waste of money. It measures my Full or IM chokes as Cylinder! When I tried to insert it into what I knew to be a Mod choke it fell into the barrel! It baffles me that most reviews are so positive. I can't help but wonder if mine just came from a bad production batch and they have a serious manufacturing quality control/consistency problem.
