Handmaid's Tale, The: Fourth Season (DVD)

Pretty good but...
Excellent acting except that, more often than not, Elizabeth Moss is overdoing it. Too many shots of her looking intense, saying nothing, smirking, using a controlled whisper, screaming or a combination of all those. Among other examples of over the top acting, there's a scene when Moss holds a gun and points right in front of her (I forget why and where) and then, as I knew she would, she turns to the little girl that was conveniently waiting behind the actress. So, Moss turns around to point the gun at that child. This is one of the many scenes in Season 4 (and this was also happening but less so in previous seasons) that are supposed to show tension, express something (dilemma, control, rage, fragility, courage, determination, and so on) in the character's mind, apparently a 'demonstration of excellent acting,' but in my opinion, completely predictable and way too heavy on the acting. There are also too many 'filler' scenes: great choices of music/soundtrack, great photography, for sure, but a lot of those scenes don't add anything (no depth, no foreshadowing, no suspense, ...) to the story, are unnecessary (unless you want to get a glass of water or take a break from watching for whatever reason,) filled with clichés and frankly, boring. I don't need to be on the edge of my seat every second, far from it! But good screenplays and scene sequencings don't have so many flaws. Moss is an excellent actress, but the series does what all series do when they run out of steam and last for too long: it rests on its laurels, has become complacent, relies too much on its past achievements. The other problem with this series, much bigger than the main actress' performance, is the storyline. It's becoming increasingly unbelievable. Yes, a woman's body as not her own is an important topic today, as it has always been. Yes, it's important to denounce totalitarianism, slavery, torture. But it makes less and less sense that a country could function for a long time, grow, prosper, become an important actor globally (economically? militarily?) with such a ridiculous social structure as that of Gilead. And don't get me wrong: there are many, many examples in the history of humanity and contemporary history as well, of totalitarian social orders, the newer 'soft' kinds and the more traditional ones. The rest of the cast is brillant and helps a great deal in making this series a watchable one still. Hopefully, Moss will return to her sober self in Season 5, and the script will be less condescendant, more realistic. If not, please, put an end to this series.

Women scorned
Never disappoints with raw and dramatic depictions of the female nature in captivity. There is one unexpected plot twist.

A fantastic show but....
This really is one of the great shows and the fact that the creator is still there guiding the ship is a bonus.However.I will not watch, or buy, another season on anything less than blu-ray disc.No blu-ray no customer...!

Love the series
Love the series. Each season is with new and exciting events that kinda leave you waiting for the next. Always questions left to be answered. But sooner rather than later hopefully the storyline has to come to satisfactory ending. And I'll be watching.

Fabulous. But truly sad that they couldn’t bring this season out on Blu-Ray!
Why couldn’t we get this season on Blu-Ray?????? I own all the others on Blu Ray yet I bought this regardless but it just doesn’t go with the others in my collection. Im noticing a lot of tv series not getting blu ray releases lately. Sad sad.
