Absolute All-Star Batman and Robin, The Boy Wonder

DIFFERENT TAKE ON IMMATURE HEROES...ON THEIR BEGINNINGS AND THE WAY THEY SAW THE WORLD AND EACH OTHER BEFORE THEY BECAME FRIENDS
This is a young Batman. All of the other heroes were young too and they didn't even knew each other well. You have to really see when he uses the word God damn why does he do it. The first time it's to scare Robin and he even thinks about it afterwards, like saying something about "this kid doesn't scare easily". He's testing the kid, right then an there to see how he reacts. I thought it is a fantastic story and yes, it has its humor but at the same time it's pretty serious. When he laughs before beating the crooks I believe he's sort of enjoying what he does, it is the Batman in his beginnings. Why wouldn't he enjoy it? He's Batman, not Bruce Wayne, and he's young and maybe STILL a bit immature. Maybe Miller wanted to explore that dark side of Batman even more, and he got a chance here and he took it. Risky, but I loved it. We are not looking at a mature Batman. He hasn't even met Superman properly and they aren't even friends. Same goes for Wonder Woman. She comes from a place where women rule. She sees Metropolis and Gotham and compared to where she comes from, she believes men are responsible for the way things are and that's why she hates them so much. They really don't know each other. It's the beginning, before the birth of long lasting friendships. They are immature in a lot of ways and so is Batman. But it's a really good story, also. Mainly on the young characters, and to see sides of their immaturity, bodes well with the whole structure of the book. Some people here don't get it. They seem to fixate on Batman laughing and saying god damn a couple of times. He really had his reasons and I could explain them if you want me to. I LOVED MILLER'S story and JIM LEE'S ART!!!!!

Three Stars
Like most reviews say...unfinished story. But the art and hardcover/slipcase make a beautiful addition to the collection

If you own the trade paperback of this, beware...it's pretty much the same thing
I'm new to the world of comics, so I am not sure if I screwed up or if the title of this book is screwed up. Based on the other reviews, I'm going with the title and descriptions. To start, I purchased to trade paperback of All-Star Batman and Robin. I loved it. Then I noticed a 1 on the spine. So I searched All-Star Batman and Robin and BAM! This beauty showed up. I was stoked. It says it collects Volumes #1-10. My trade paperback was had a 1 so it must be number 1, right? Nope. Nowhere in the trade paperback description did it state that #1-9 were already collected for you. So here I thought I was getting a hell of a deal, turns out, I paid almost $60 for one more volume. Am I keeping it? Of course. It's pretty and I plan on getting all the Absolutes. On the plus side, the pages are substantially larger, which means bigger pictures and text. My eyes appreciate that.

DO NOT BUY THIS IN ABSOULTE EDITION!
If you insist on checking this out, please do yourself a favor and buy this in trade paperback and do not buy this in absolute edition, it is a complete waste of money. There is not much dialogue in this comic, the only ONLY reason to even pick this book up is for Jim Lee's amazing artwork. If you aren't into Jim Lee's art (which I don't understand why you wouldn't be) there is literally no reason to pick this book up. On top of that, it is an unfinished series...which is confusing as to why DC put out an Absolute for an unfinished product...

Would probably be a classic if it were published in book format without any dialog
The only reason ASBRTBW gets any stars is due to the art work. The concepts and elements of the story line were not horrible in and of themselves, but the writing was ... well... just lazy and unpleasant. It felt as if it were penned by a high school student from the Detroit public school system. It's not often I read a book or comic and I say "I wish I hadn't read that". Anyone who makes a top 10 list of worst comics ever and doesn't include this one has probably never read it.

Batman The 1980s Summer Action "B" Movie
I can promise you this book is unlike anything you will have ever read before. Going into this a huge batman fan (and a even bigger Frank Miller fan), I read this book many years ago and I will never forget thinking "What the ***k did I just read?". I finished the book and while even to this day I still believe this is Jim Lees FINEST artwork to date (He probably wanted to make up for lack of story). I couldn't help but think this book was just pure trash. Joker with tats having sex with women? Batman literally abducting a child and forcing him to eat rats? Batman calling himself the "God damn" Batman who drives a "God Damn" Batmobile? A justice league with Superman, an Annoying Green Lantern, A sexist Wonder Woman, and....Plastic Man....? I Left this book originally thinking Millers from "Year One" and "Dark Knight Returns" is gone.It wasn't until several years later I got the joke. This wasn't supposed to be "Year One" or "Dark Knight Returns". This wasn't supposed to be "Long Halloween" or the "Man who laughs" or any of those other epic batman stories. This was Batman "Sin City". This was Batman the "cheesy 80s action movie". I read this book originally and took it too seriously but at not point in the story does Miller. Miller is clearly a lover of the 80s. Movie like terminator and robocop to name a few. This is his version of a 1980s B action story Batman. Once I accepted that fact I was able to have a lot of fun.Like another reviewer said the story isn't complete but you can technically have a "Ending" if you stop at issue ten. Honestly I understand many people will hate this comic and thats OK. This is not a story to be taken seriously but instead to be enjoyed for its fun romps and over the top dialogue. This book is just popcorn fun and its also a beautiful book to look at as well.I hope you enjoyed my review!

I get why people hate this storyline as it is far away from what they are used to seeing from a Batman comic. Yet when it is in line with the other work Frank Miller has done with Batman, it fits perfect. Remember that this is Batman after his first year as a vigilante, so he is a bit cocky and sure of himself and his skills. How he treats Robin leads perfectly into their fight in the Dark Knight Strikes Again along with the unease amongst Batman and other members of the Justice League. The art is some of the best I've ever seen from Jim Lee and if you place the book in the Miller Dark Knight timeline, it is a really good rendition of Batman.
