It's improved with age
I saw this in theaters years ago when it was released. I thought at the time it was so-so. I watched it a few weeks ago after all these years and I thought it was better now. This is one of those that actually got better with age so, I ordered it in 2-D on blu ray and I'm glad I did. I like much more now than I thought I would. I still don't like the original, though. I like the remake much better.

Don't Be Scared
This is a film that has been remade. Personally, I thought both the original and this one were great. They were different, not the same so really not the same movie at all. This is a suspenseful horror movie. Around ten years after the first murderous rampage in a little mining village, the killer attacks once more,Due to the murder, bloodshed, crude language, and explicit sexual material, this movie is intended for adults only. There is a lot of action and suspense in the film. If you're a horror fanatic like me, you'll probably figure it out pretty early, but for those of you who aren't, it'll keep you wondering right up to the very end. Both the cast and the movie are excellent. I am glad I watched it.

An enjoyable new vision of the awesome 1981 Canadian slasher flick.
At first when I had heard about this movie being remade back in early 2009 when I first saw the trailer, I had many concerns about whether or not this movie would show any respect for the source material that the excellent 1981 slasher gave us and that has been celebrated for nearly 30 years. I have to admit that it all looked tempting from them selling it with the 3-D element and coming up with a creative ad for it.Well I would say that how good this remake is is based simply more on how thrilling it is by its own merits and not in contrast with the original. As I see it both versions are great in their own special ways. I won't be comparing this version and the original but rather just to state what is good about this version solely. The opening credits are awesome visually as computer effects(intended in particular for the 3-D aspect of this movie) are used to show a series of newspaper articles regarding the several slayings brought on by Harry Warden during Valentine's day.Harry Warden still has a massively menacing appearance with the dark creepy miner's get up. Once he walks steadily but surely with his big pickaxe you know that things are going to get freaky, brutal, and messy with him leaving few to no survivors. The intensity, gore, and kills are all very well handled. The miner is vicious, scary, and unrelenting in his brutality making for one intense serial killer with no limits to what he'll do. He especially goes from biding his time in the shadows of the mine to subduing his victims with small effort. As for the gore well it's awesomely bloody and graphic even in the aftermath. The gore design may not be entirely as impressive as the practical gore shown in the extended version of the original but the gore showcased here still gets the job done in it's gruesomeness. The kills don't vary a whole lot in execution but the masterful way that Harry wield his pickaxe through people's mouths and chests are remarkably done. There's not as much nudity as there should have been but still there is still one bit of nudity that is sweet and enjoyable. As for the actors well, Jensen Ackles did a great job as Tom Hanniger, gorgeous and smokin' hot Jaime King is good here and there as the lovely Sarah Palmer, horror movie veteran Tom Atkins was great as always playing Sheriff Burke, but Kerr Smith as Axel Palmer he really sucked. Not only was his acting terrible but he was cheesy looking, not believable as a small town cop, and most of all he just couldn't hold a candle to Neil Affleck. The cinematography by Brian Pearson was beautifully and fully shot showcasing gorgeous pictures of the forest, the town of Harmony, the well-lit yet creepy mine, the lovely interiors of the police station, the bridge over water and beyond, the grocery store, and interiors of the character's houses. I also am highly impressed by the creepy and chilling dark and dreary night scenes. The fight choreography at the end is intriguing and lots of fun to watch as well. The 3-D aspect of this movie is really cool and it makes this movie all the more fun to watch.

What is this?
Is this supposed to be a sequel? A Remake? I'm so confused. Why does this movie start like it's in the middle of film, or continuing from a story that we never saw? I saw the original a long time ago, and honestly I don't remember it, but it was so many years ago you'd think that they would provide some backstory that actually made sense. Not like picking up after some major event already happened. Aside from that, it's mildly entertaining, and pretty gory.

Fun Flick & Amazing 3D
Whenever there is a remake of a movie, there is always the idea that it won’t live up to the original. I’m a huge fan of the original, and decided I needed to finally watch the remake.I was glad to find out that there is a Blu Ray 3D (not anaglyph -blue & red) version because anaglyph never really seems to work well on televisions.First, I thought the movie was good. I figured out the ending shortly through it, but when you watch a lot of slashers, that kind of happens.Second, this didn’t focus as much on why the killer killed on Valentine’s Day like the original, it just happened to be on Valentine’s Day. I didn’t see that as a problem, but it could’ve stood as its own movie. Would’ve been the same movie if it was called My Bloody Easter. No real meaning to the holiday of choice in the movie. And finally, the 3D was outstanding. Of course, when horror/slasher flicks are made in 3D, they make a point to make the killings extreme and the 3D pop out more than some flicks that just use it for depth.I gave it 4 Stars for reason number 2 stated above. Good movie, but there was no real meaning to having this movie as a remake of My Bloody Valentine when it was really just because it was on Valentine’s Day without the deeper meaning behind the original.I did definitely enjoy this movie.

It always keeps you guessing
Has enough suspense and excietement to keep you involed the entire movie, does a great job at keeping you guessing who the killer is. Story line is pretty solid. Def worth watching if you like thriller/slasher type movies.

DON'T buy the 3D version!
As a horror movie, this isn't bad if you can discount the extremely obvious plot 'twist' at the end. No classic, but pretty watchable. However, the film is utterly ruined by the awful 3D. I love 3D films. I own dozens of them and have watched dozens more, but this film has the worst 3D I have ever seen. For maybe 70% of the film, it's as though the backdrops have been shot through glass that's angled incorrectly which just makes them look... wrong. It's especially noticeable in the darker scenes - of which there are quite a few. Then there's the ghosting. In quite a few instances, it's like watching a badly tuned analogue TV. Very noticeable and it really detracts from the film. It's even present on the credits at the end! The 3D was so distractingly bad that about 20 minutes in, I decided to watch the 2D version instead. Only to find that, despite the shot of the back of the case on here clearly stating that there were 3D and 2D versions included, there is no 2D version. So I was stuck with the dodgy 3D. I found myself less watching the film and more watching for yet more faults in the 3D.3/5 for the film, 1/5 for the 3D, so 2/5 overall.

Hugely entertaining and terrifically fun this is possibly the best slasher remake of all time
Gloriously OTT slasher remake with more than enough blood, gore and guts to refloat titanic. Starring the dee lish us ly yummy and delightfully scrummy Jensen Ackles, and any film with him in is worth a watch. Jaime King is always a good scream queen and Kerr Smith is a nice compliment to Jensen's gorgeous ness. Dependable old greats Tom Atkins and Kevin Tighe are on the money. This remake was always gonna live and or die, so to speak, on its gore effects and thanks to master of his craft Gary J. Tunnicliffe they are simply transcendent. There's some fun performances here and some neat bits of action too. One of my all time favourite slasher remakes for many reasons but first and foremost, Mr. Ackles. As good, and he's really, really good, as he is in Supernatural, he is supremely hunky here and a perfectly competent actor to boot. There is an instance of naked boobies and butt and even front bum but that's thankfully brief.

Very well done remake of a minor horror classic
Being a fan of the original, I was keen to see if this remake worked, and I'm glad to say I found it good - if not 'faithful' to the original, at least it's very much in the same spirit as it.The conceit is the same as the first film - mine disaster on Valentines Day, a miner went nuts and went on a slashing spree, and now years later a Valentine's Day celebration is kicking off another wave of slash and stab. The ace in this version's sleeve is the casting of a great central relationship triangle - Supernatural's 'Dean Winchester', Jensen Ackles, Jaime King as his old flame, and Kerr Smith as the town sheriff now with her. They make a very convincingly played emotional core to the film, so that when it all kicks off, you have some good solid characters to hang onto. The violence feels a little arbitrary at first, but soon seething resentments start to bubble to the surface and the massacre gets wings. Incredible Hulk and Clash of the Titans director Patrick Lussier handles it very well, and the stalking set pieces are tense and frightening. Also the 3D (the old type with glasses) - if you choose to watch it in this version - is used very well and adds to the immersion instead of just being for lunging poles and knives. The twists aren't entirely unexpected, but there are enough red herrings thrown our way to confuse even a best guess, until the final confrontations. A worthy remake.

Fun tongue in cheek horror with green and purple streaks
After I got over the fright that my TV or DVD player was faulty, I realized that the green and purple streaks on the screen were connected to the transfer from 3D to DVD. Even use of 3D converter and goggles did not fix it so I will try green/magenta filter goggles. It was a weird experience to watch in this form, what is an entertaining parody style horror. There were shocks and black comedy aplenty (kudos to the actress who ran around the car park without a stitch on except high heels). Acting was good-- who could not like Jenson Ackles -- so the 4stars are for what the experience would have been with a proper picture. I'm feeling generous today and it must have been good if I enjoyed it despite the distracting luminous streaky colors.

Red and blue glasses !!!
3d blue ray ...super dissapointed when I found it was old style red and blue glasses. Think for blu ray release this is not on. Did not notice any mention of this ( could be me missed it ) on the listing.
