these things are obsolete... they didn't cost 331 brand new..... did they?

I honestly can't remember what the cost was when they were brand new. But some of the digital situations I have run into have made it necessary to try and preserve this form of technology. I have video tapes that are 30 years old and older. I have DVD's and CD's that are almost 20 years old. Digital really doesn't help me in these situations.

This does not record or write tapes or DVDs. It plays existing tapes and DVDs.

You can play vhs tapes and record to a DVD. You can record from TV to vhs and I assume DVD but haven't tried recording. I only "play." Have no idea what PAL is...
