1/2 inch.  a better switch for a vanity light would be smaller and require a 1/4 inch hole. A mini bat toggle switch SPDT.  Two or three amp rating should be enough.

Actually, the listing does NOT clearly state whether or not it is momentary contact.  You have to go to the Gardner Bender site to figure out what these are.  The Amazon listing title has parentheses around the word (OFF).  It should not.  Go to the Gardner Bender website and search GSW-16 and you will not see any parentheses anywhere in the circuit specification.  You have to be very careful buying DPDT switches based on the Amazon listings.  You are better off finding what you think is right and going to the manufacturer's website to see if the model number is the right one for your application.  You could be looking for a GSW-123 or something similar.

Yes, it can be used as a kill switch, but it depends on what circuit you're interrupting. Keep in mind how much current will go through the switch (rating is 20 A, 125 V AC).

This switch is a Double Pole, Double Throw switch, which means all contacts are broken when the toggle is in the center position.  When the toggle is pushed in either direction the contacts on that side of the switch make contact.  For sake of discussion, assume we are speaking of the one set of contacts along the long side of the switch.   When the switch is pressed forward the center and far (still along the long side) contacts will make contact.  When the switch is pulled back, the center and near side make contact.  It is also a Momentary On which means the contacts will only make contact while the toggle is pressed.  Once released the toggle automatically returns to center which is usually the off position.   I hope this helps.  If you are still puzzled, ask the same question and specify you want a wiring diagram.
