reliving the joy in this book
I read this book when I was a kid (the illustration on the cover is the same one on the book I had) and I am now reading it to my granddaughter, reliving the joy in this book.

Every parent should read.
This is one of those books that every parent should read to his or her children. Some 60 years ago I was spellbound by the story. I read it many times to my own children, and I expect to be reading it soon to their children. Life is not always what you think it will or should be. Strange twists in the road are what it's all about. Uncle Beazley lives!

Great read aloud for small children
While a little dated, we've really enjoyed this book as a read aloud with our 3 and 6 year olds. We read a chapter a night and the kids won't let us miss!

Terrific fun for boys and girls.
Fun and funny fantasy about a chicken laying a dinosaur egg on a small farm in Freedom, New Hampshire. There were a few times when I scratched my head and said, this is implausible only to remind myself: it's a story about a hen laying a dinosaur egg! Once the protagonist gets to Washington he encounters an idiot Senator I thought at first to have been drawn too broadly - too much of a fool. Then I heard Rep. Michelle Bachmann and a few others on the news and realized how spot on Butterworth was. This is a classic "boy" story - Nate Twitchell is kin to Homer Price and Henry Huggins; if you liked their books, you're sure to like this.

what's up with the Artwork?
This is a Great story, very well written, and every boy should have it. I expected the cover that is shown on the advert. That's the artwork from the original, which I owned as a child. That's the book I thought I was getting for my Grandson. Evidently, I received a later addition that does Not have this cover, and the inside art looks like it was "modernized", which was completely unnecessary. No explanation for the substitute was offered. My Grandson does not know the difference and he is enjoying the story thoroughly, so I guess that is the important thing.

The book is fun and exciting
The book is fun and exciting. Dinosaurs are a favorite for kids and this book lets their imagination wander as the story unfolds. A fiction they will remember. It will not disappoint you if you are thinking about purchasing it. I am reading it to a 7 year old.

Great to read to my grandson. Read to 3rd graders for years.
Such a neat story for dinosaur lovers. Bring Washington DC in was wild and how all the children came together.

Where is the missing copy
Oliver Butterworth, author of this book, employed my aunt Molly, long since deceased, as a governess at the Butterworth family home in Connecticut. My aunt gave me a copy as a child and I enjoyed it so much that I decided to give copies at Christmas to the children of two of my own daughters. I believe I ordered two copies online and paid for them by Visa credit card at a cost of €20.04 but received only one, a very small volume in packaging that must have cost as much as the book itself. Please check my original order, and let me know if I am correct in thinking that I specifically ordered two copies. Regards, Joe Tyrrell

A classic
Fabulous story that I was excited to share with my children, as it was a childhood favourite of my own. Classic, timeless, and fun.

childhood favorite
I loved this book as a child and bought three - one for each of my children's families to enjoy. I reread it and I still love it. It was my first foray into science fiction in a way as the egg is a dinosaur egg. Good story.
