Awesome waffle maker
I received this waffle maker today in the Mail. I boiled the waffle plates then ran them under cold water to see the wax that was left. I used a scouring pad to scratch off the wax and dipped them in boiling water again and repeated the process until all the wax wAs off. I decided to wait until after I got back from the store to season it, not a good idea the plates had already started to rust. I boiled the plates again dried them, put canola oil all over, took the handles off, and baked them in the oven at 350 for one hour. After the waffle iron cooled I heated them on my gas stove. Next, I Sprayed them with nonstick spray and added the waffle mix. I Cooked the waffle for 1minute on each side the waffles were delicious. I'm glad I made this purchase and will be using it when we camp this Friday.

Pie Irons are Fun Tools to Use
We have used Pie Irons for all kinds of food & the kids love it. If you have a wood stove & the power goes out they sure come in handy to cook a meal. They are amazing utensils to use. Sometimes I feel like I'm experiencing what our women pioneers did when they had to be creative along the trails. Simple was always best in those conditions but sometimes using a pie iron can put variety on the table. They are easy to use. You just need to get use to them just like when cooking with a camp Dutch Oven. But I didn't know you could get a Waffle Iron. So my family is looking forward to using them. It will be interesting to see what they come up with, with their own recipes.

Great LITTLE TINY ITTY BITTY waffle iron
Amazon/FEDEX shipping DESTROYED the shipping container which resulted in a deep scrape on the iron. That is no big deal but minus one star to Amazon for crummy packaging. My only gripe about the product is that this iron is TINY and it doesn't show how small it is in the pictures. It should say Mini-Waffle Iron in the description. These lilliputian waffles will not fill up your entire plate like normal 9" waffle does. They are about six inches across. Small. Tiny. Miniature waffles. It takes ten of them to fill up a decently hungry man. Other than the diminutive size of the iron, it's GREAT! Season/Condition it properly and treat it like any other cast iron cookware and it will last forever. You may need to replace the handles every five years or so... :)

Very impractical while camping
Although this seemed like a great idea, it was anything but. I seasoned it well in my oven before using and practiced with it on my stove at home prior to taking it camping. I finally got it down... not burned, not sticking. When we took it camping, our first waffle burned and stuck something fierce. It was horrible. We ended up with pancakes instead. It's very difficult for one person to fill with batter because it opens so wide and then comes apart. It was just an overall bad experience. We threw ours away :(

THE REAL DEAL!!!
I LOVE IT! My kids love it! and my husband love it! This is the REAL DEAL!!! For first time users, this Waffle Iron NEED to be seasoned! What I did was first wash it off with hot water to remove the paraffin wax. DO NOT cook with the wax on!!! after that we removed the handles and put both pans into the oven, bake it at 350 degree for an hour. I did it at night, so when I opened the oven in the morning, it's cooled! then wash it again with warm water and soap…and TADAaa!!! It's ready to go! It made beautiful waffles!!! Crispy on the outside and fluffy inside!

Great addition to the gear.
I don't think I is practical to expect to use this in hand over the fire as it is extremely heavy, and each waffle takes about 3-5 minutes, also you need more of a way to regulate heat consistency, so what we have done is either put a grill grate over the fire to set it on, or just use it directly on the Coleman stove. All of that being said, this is a great little addition to our camping gear, and I really love the waffles it turns out. They get a really tasty crispy shell on them, and are nice and fluffy on the inside.Make sure to season it properly to make cleaning easier, because it can be a war to clean either way, but unseasoned cast iron is like the opposite side of non stick. Get some good grill cooking spray to help either way, because you want to be able to switch out the waffles quickly so that the iron stays hot, and having to scrape each one off with make it take even longer. Not practical for large groups, but fun for a sap family.

rome's chuckwagon waffle iron, cast iron
this is an excellent product, to use I found that when I received it it was as it was stated to be, I seasoned the waffle maker which was very easy to do. I have found that I not only use it for making waffles but I do hashbrowns with it I would not trade it for the world and I wonder why it took me so long to get it. I love it. it is a great iron for the price, it is not heavy I would definitely recommend this product to anyone that was looking for an old fashioned waffle iron that will last long after I leave this world! You in my opinion can not go wrong with it

Klasse Produkt, tolles Service-Team!
