Q: Does this require a wall on two sides? Is the back finished so one side can be free standing?

Thank you for your interest. The sets are sturdy and free standing but the majority is unfinished in the back , which means you can see the wood formation of the seat in the back and the backside is upholstered only with a linen. We do have a large collection of breakfast Nook sets which are made for us in Austria, where we can custom design them with the back finished . Customers who did not have a two wall space like you , just finished it off themselves with a piece of wood panel with their own color and design , added a shelf or any type of decoration behind it. We have imported Breakfast Nook sets from Germany, Austria etc for over 20 years. German Furniture Warehouse, Delray Beach , FL

Thank you for your interest . 6-7 ppl comfortably and onee the table is extended you can add another 2 chairs .
