Original Album Classics

I love this series of cd’s where you can get the first few albums for a good price. If you buy them individually you will pay way more. The sleeves have small print, but if you need more information, you can find it on line. The sound is fine. If you’re curious about the group Mountain, this is the place to start.

These are excellent CD's with wonderful dynamics in both treble and bass. Sound great on my tube setup.

if you like the band cream then you will like Mountain. Great band fron the seventies. Most of these cd can be found used or new . But this collection is all the first five. great price and all five are here. the older collection is not remastered so you can turn it up loud and hear Leslie West at his best. they do not make music like this anymore.

Mountain burned brightly in their short career, and they burned brightest on their first 2 albums. This box has 3 studio albums: 1) Climbing (1970); 2) Nantucket Sleighride (1971); and 3) Avalanche (1974). The first two are classic albums - essential for fans interested in the history of heavy metal/hard rock genre. The good news here is that they are definitely remastered (these boxed sets are hit or miss on remaster editions - if it was remastered before the set issued then it is usually included - they have not specially remastered any of these discs for this box set release). Avalanche is not remastered, but to tell you the truth, I couldn't tell the difference, and there's probably not much on it that you would care about unless you're an odd duck like me that likes one particular song off the album that nobody else likes.The other two albums are live or half studio/half live: 1) Twin Peaks (1974 - Double Live Album); 2) Flowers of Evil (1971 - Side 1 Studio & Side 2 Live). Twin Peaks may be remastered because a remastered version was issued in 2006 and this box set was issued in 2010, it sounds good, but like I said I couldn't tell much difference. Flowers of Evil is not remastered but the sound is still good for what it is. Twin Peaks was considered by All Music Guide to be a good document of their live show, back then they used to drag songs out forever live and Nantucket Sleighride runs over 31 minutes. Most people would be happy with the Best of Mountain, which has been remastered by the way. But with this Box set you get everything that's on the Best of Mountain and a lot more for not a lot more money.

Excellent item and service

There's nothing like taking a step backwards, to a piece of life that was innocent, not only in lifestyles, but also in the arts as well- Listening to these five albums from 'Mountain' placed a smile on my face that I could not erase- Listening to selections such as: Mississippi Queen, Nantucket Sleighride, Theme for an Imaginary Western, and Roll Over Beethovan, not to mention the excellent guitar solos offered by Felix West, places me back to a part of my youth only attainable by the realm of music- I can actually remember where I was as I heard these cuts 30 to 40 years ago- Thanks to the boys in the band for allowing this collector's item to reenter the music market- If you are not familiar with Felix West or the delights of Mountain, this is a great place to begin, at a ridiculously low price- Get it while these Golden Oldies are still available, as they will not always be so!

I purchased this CD I enjoyed listening to their music I think it was a very very goodbye where I will get plenty of hours of listening time

Good old Mountain. What a unique sound these guys had. Full throttle vocals and muffled overdriven guitar sound from Leslie was enough to convert me. Great quality and value for your money.

Ho comprato il box perché ho gli album in vinile di "Climbing" e di "Nantucket sleighride". L'ultimo c'è l'ho di importazione americana con un bel booklet che riporta i testi delle canzoni e disegni di balene e capodagli ...ovviamente manca nel box ma nella sostanza rimane un gran bell'album, non inferiore a quelli dei famosi Cream con i quali West (r.i.p.), Felix Pappalardi (r.i.p.) e Corky Laing hanno interagito. In Climbing c'è la famosa Theme for an Imaginary Western di Jack Bruce che secondo me viene resa meglio dai Mountain con la voce magnifica di Pappalardi...

Dieses Box-Set enthält folgende 5 Alben von der Kult-Gruppe Mountain:1. Climbing (1970: Debut-LP als Band "Mountain" - Klassiker !)2. Nantucket Sleighride (1971: Zweite LP - Klassiker !)3. Flowers Of Evil (1971: Dritte LP) (Seite 1 mit Studio-Songs - Seite 2 mit Live Aufnahmen)4. Twin Peaks (1974: DoLP mit Live-Aufnahmen von einer Japan-Tour)5. Avalanche (1974: letzte Studio-LP der Band in den 70er Jahren)Der Gitarrist und Sänger Leslie West veröffentlichte im Jahr 1969 eine Solo-LP mit dem Titel "Mountain". Noch im gleichen Jahr gründete er dann zusammen mit dem Bassisten Felix Pappalardi (hatte vorher einige Sachen von "Cream" produziert), dem Keyboarder S. Knight und dem Drummer N. Smart die Gruppe "Mountain". Obwohl die Band noch keine LP vorweisen konnte, durfte sie im August 1969 auf dem legendären Woodstock-Festival auftreten ! Kurz nach Woodstock übernahm der Kanadier Corky Laing den Posten des Drummers und in dieser Besetzung spielte Mountain die Debut-LP "Climbing" ein, welche 1970 herauskam. Mit demselben Line-Up wurden auch die nächsten beiden Alben ("Nantucket Sleighride" und "Flowers Of Evil") aufgenommen, welche beide im Jahr 1971 veröffentlicht wurden. Noch im gleichen Jahr aber trennten sich Mountain. West und Laing taten sich 1972 mit Jack Bruce (Ex-Bassist von Cream) zusammen und veröffentlichten unter dem Bandnamen "West, Bruce & Laing" insgesamt 3 Alben (2 Studio - 1 Live). Mitte des Jahres 1973 jedoch kamen West und Pappalardi wieder zusammen und reformierten "Mountain" gemeinsam mit dem Keyboarder R. Mann und dem Drummer A. Schwartzberg. In dieser Besetzung ging man gleich auf eine Japan-Tour, wo die Live-DoLP "Twin Peaks" mitgeschnitten wurde. Rechtzeitig zu den Aufnahmen für die nächste Studio-LP "Avalanche" tauchte auch Corky Laing wieder im Line-Up von "Mountain" auf. Dies sollte jedoch die letzte LP sein, welche die Band in den 70er Jahren einspielte, denn Ende 1974 war mit "Mountain" dann auch schon wieder Schluß.Die Musik von Mountain kann man als harten (Blues-)Rock bezeichnen. Wenn man von den Urvätern des harten Rock spricht, müsste der Name "Mountain" eigentlich mit an erster Stelle auftauchen, was aber seltenst der Fall ist (wieso eigentlich ?). Leslie West spielte bereits "harten Rock", als Black Sabbath noch nicht einmal eine LP auf dem Markt hatten ! Man muß sich nur einmal seine Solo-LP "Mountain" von 1969 anhören ! Die Songs dieser Platte enthalten bereits alle herausstechenden Trademarks, die später auch die Musik von "Mountain" auszeichneten. Leslie West war ein ausgezeichneter Gitarrist und hatte auch eine markante, rauhe Stimme, die voll und ganz zu seiner Musik passte. Viele Mountain-Songs wurden aber auch von Pappalardi gesungen, dessen weichere Stimme bei den "weniger heftigen Titeln" optimal eingesetzt werden konnte. Die ersten beiden Studio-LPs von Mountain gelten als Klassiker und enthalten Song-Perlen wie "Mississippi Queen", "Silver Paper", "Theme From An Imaginary Western", "Never In My Life", "Don't Look Around", "Nantucket Sleighride", "Traveling In The Dark", um nur einige zu nennen.Noch eine kurze Anmerkung: Im Jahr 1972 erschien eine Live-LP von Mountain mit dem Titel "The Road Goes Ever On" (mit Live-Aufnahmen aus dem Jahr 1971). Diese Live-Scheibe wird von vielen Mountain-Fans weit höher eingestuft als die "Twin Peaks" von 1974. Leider ist diese Live-LP nicht in diesem Box-Set enthalten.Also Rock-Fans: Zu einem sehr fairen Preis bekommt ihr 5 CDs von "Mountain", eine der herausragenden Kult-Bands der 70er Jahre. Was hält Euch eigentlich noch davon ab, dieses Box-Set zu kaufen ? Wer gut gespielten Hard Rock der Extra-Klasse mag, der kommt an "Mountain" nicht vorbei !Von mir auf jeden Fall die Höchstwertung: 5 Sterne ! Geht gar nicht anders !

Ich kannte von Mountain fast gar nichts. Ich habe mit der Box eine wohl absolute Hammer Auswahl ihrer Alben erwischt.Preis- Leistung ist hier Top !Das Live Album fällt meines Erachtens ein wenig ab aber insgesamt tolle Mucke.Volle 5 Sterne
