The Orvis Fly-Fishing Guide, Revised

I was thinking I was getting a book that I could read from cover to cover. This is more of a “coffee table” reference guide. While the author and content has good material I’m better off watching videos on-line. Not exactly what I expected.

As a novice this book has been a great introduction to the different elements of fly fishing from the selection of rod, line, and fly to strategies on the water.

Covers basically everything you need to know to get started and everything you need to google to become good.

Overall, this is an amazing manual. As you'd expect it's very heavy on pushing Orvis products, but Tom Rosenbauer is one of the most respected names in fly fishing for a reason--he's got a wealth of knowledge. It's an engaging, very well written book that covers most things you'll ever need to know about different techniques, etc. My only gripe (other than the product pushing) is that some of the how-to explanations on techniques and tying knots are pretty confusing. Still worth the purchase and refer to it often.

A comprehensive guide to fly fishing. A lot of excellent tips. Good introduction to the sport.

As a newly to fly fishing I was looking for a book to get me started. This was a great choice. It covered most of the bases in a readable style. After reading through it and watching some Orvis YouTube videos, I’m on my way.

The book does a great job explaining all the basic details of fly fishing. I recommend this book for anyone wanting to start fly fishing.

I read all the book and have a lot of information, good pictures, great quality, I think for beginners is a very good toll for introducing in fly fishing. I recommend it
