Sturdy Dog Training Collar
This is a dog training collar I am able to use safely! It’s sturdy, not too sharp, but still great for use in dog obedience training. Best of all, there’s a small safety collar that works with the training collar. I’ve taken many obedience classes with my dogs over the years (great fun for me and my dogs) and the classes usually require some sort of pronged collar. A couple of my dogs learned doing a jump/spin (Bully breed for reference) would cause the regular, metal collars to pop open. With the Starmark, I don’t have to worry as the collar is especially resistant popping open, no matter how they spin. However, if that should happen, the secondary safety collar would hold my dog until I secure them properly. On a less important note, the black color is less eye catching, so there’s no accusing looks from people unfamiliar with dog training (i.e. “You’re torturing your dog” or “Is your dog so dangerous you need that type of a collar”) because the Starmark looks like a regular, black collar unless you really look. I recommend the Starmark collar to anyone needing a sturdy, dependable dog training collar. The only very minor drawback is that the collar’s durability means adding or removing links is slightly more difficult than with a traditional metal pronged collar. However, the security of knowing my dogs won’t be able to slip out of the Starmark far outweighs the difficulty adjusting size in my mind.

Dog trainer recommended
I enrolled my 100 lb golden in a beginner obedience class. This is the collar that my trainer recommended. It has worked beautifully and we just completed the senior obedience class. I like that you can add or remove links to the collar to adjust the size. When measuring for your dog, keep in mind that it should be worn high on the dog's neck, behind the ears. This collar provides just the right amount of pressure to get my dog's attention when needed. I never take my dog out in public without it.

Great Training Collar
I have 3 large dogs and have one of these collars for them all. The collars I purchaseed are 4 and 5 years old and I haven't had any problems with them. They are easy to size, take on and off, and are effective as a training tool. I ordered a smaller size for a friend's small dog. She likes this training collar better than a pinch collar.

Easy on her neck
This looks less aggressive then the chrome ones and is gentle on her neck while serving the same purpose

Our Trainer Recommended This Collar
Our trainer recommended this collar. Our dog definitely responds to it. He used to choke himself on his old collar. Now he feels the pinch and knows he needs to correct is behavior. The collar is easy to adjust the length by adding and removing links.

poodles are pretty smart but this should work with other dogs so ...
I was skeptical about using this kind of collar as the dog trainer suggested, but it does NOT hurt the dog when used correctly. I have a 65lb standard poodle puppy that was pulling hard during a walk. I tried conservative training with minimal results: he still pulled, just a little bit less, which was still not acceptable. I contacted a local trainer. With her correction techniques using this collar, my fur boy is walking without pulling after just 1 session!! True, poodles are pretty smart but this should work with other dogs so long as you combine it with Professional Traiining. This is NOT to be used to "force" your dog to walk well. It's used as a "gentle reminder" as well as teaching your dog to pay attention to you, the leader. There is no one quick way to train a dog well, it's a combination of a set of professional, knowledge based training techniques and a trainer to help you understand the reasoning behind the techniques. As a dog lover and owner for over 30 years, I discovered the benefits of the professionals about 5 years ago when I had problems with a rescue. I cannot express how important a well rounded training program can improve your dog's behavior and prevent safety issues that could limit your pet's time here on earth with you.

I will still use it but not as much as I thought for training.
I thought it would replace a prong collar for training and be easier to get on and off or add links.I have a Great Pyrenees 6 month old puppy - who has has puppy training. She does not respond to this collar nearly as well as her prong collar and I do not have to tug with the prong collar. She is very aware and responds with a loose lead always and follows her commands wonderfully. I have a gentle touch and that is important.I also have arthritis in my hands and need to be able to have her follow my commands without tugging. The links on the starmark are harder for me to add or take off. My dog pulls more with the starmark on. Sorry! I like the design but think it works better on a smaller breed. Thanks.
