Excellent collar for walking an athletic dog.
Excellent collar. This is power steering for your dog. When used responsibly, it is much less likely to injure an uncooperative dog's neck than a normal colllar or a choke collar. You can teach a dog to walk at heal with this collar and, right away, the dog essentially learns to correct himself when he forgets and tugs at the the lead instead of walking at heal. The dog figures out fast which one of you is the dog and that it is up to him not to pull on the lead or he will make himself less comfortable. Also an added bonus, when on the dog the collar looks like a normal collar, in contrast to the Draconian-looking pinch collars. Pinch collars are also safe and humane to use, but using a pinch collar in public draws unsolicited criticism from well-meaning strangers who are not familiar with published studies on the pinch collar vs use of the choke collar.I have had two StarMark collars since 1999. I lost the first one on a huntIng trip, and replaced the lost collar with a second StarMark collar in 2013 purchased on Amazon. I use it daily to walk my 60 lb lab and, as of mid-year 2019, the collar is in like-new working order.I strongly recommend this collar to anyone that wants to walk a well-behaved dog. The collar provides a humane and safe way to handle your dog without injuring the dog. You will be able keep him out of traffic, away from other dogs, out of peoples’ faces, and under control anywhere you take the dog, and look like you know what you are doing. This is an excellent piece of gear.UpdateJuly 2019.Note in response to a handful of negative reviews, primarily complaining of trouble they had adding or removing the links that make up the collar, and one or two complaining about the collar coming appart. There is a “trick” to adding or removing the links. When necessary to adjust to fit your dog, the links snap apart easily with a firm twisting motion to allow adding or removing a link. You also add a link with a twisting motion. The process is very simple when you get the hang of it. The learning curve is short for most but for a few its apparently also a steep. Be patient. Tools should not be necessary unless you have trouble with your grip strength and cannot put a firm grip on the links to snap them in place. If the links are connected correctly, this is a very strong and durable collar that is easily able to handle my 65 lb lab with my dog’s intense athletic power. If the collar comes apart, either a link is damaged or a link was not connected correctly, which is user error. You can damage the collar If you are not careful using tools such as vice grips or a hammer when adding or removing links. If the collar gets, e.g., slammed in a car door or run over by a truck., a link may be damaged. Check the collar before you put it on your dog. If a link is loose, reconnect it, if its damaged, I’d replace the link, not the entire collar. I have had no damage or serious wear to the links on my collar in 6 years of normal use with my lab. I have complete confidence in this product, and would definitely still strongly recommend it to a friend.M.LafayetteIf you find this review helpful, hit the “helpful” button below to Let me know that I did not waste my time reviewing this product and make me more inclined to review other products.

Good training tool
I really didn’t want to have to go with any type of “training tool”, but I did. Based on a recommendation from a friend, I purchased this. Bottom line - it works. I have a rescued pit bull that had no training and could ramp up if she saw another dog, or bunny, or bird, or pretty much anything, when we were out on our walks. She was thin when rescued, but as she went up to her healthy weight, she was a handful to manage and I dreaded having to take her for a walk. I use the collar most of the time, and found I’m not constantly having to tug on her leash, which helps both of us relax when out walking. I found after a couple of weeks of use, I could rotate between her normal collar and this, with similar results. She’s not totally there yet, but vast improvement with this tool. I recommend.

Best move for pullers
I have a husky and when I first got him he was dragging me all over the place. He still pulls while wearing this collar but probably only 20% of the force he has with a regular collar. I’ve gotten this for 2 of my friends that have huskies and they both called this “a game changer” lol. My gf weighs 100 lbs and can now comfortably walk her dog. The pups don’t seem to mind much. The first day, they will turn around and give you a sad look, don’t fall for it. In a few days they will be pulling again, just not as much as before. Definitely worth the$$. Also, I never used the extra, “safety” string collar that comes with it. If u buy this you will know what part I’m referring to.

She still jumps but when she jump or pull too hard this gives her other attention (I think like Cesar Millan use his leg to give a dog ...
My pit/airdale mix is too friendly but very hyper and jumps a lot when she sees other dogs or cats. This doesn't solve the problem completely BUT it helps a lot! She still jumps but when she jump or pull too hard this gives her other attention (I think like Cesar Millan use his leg to give a dog attention). I was thinking to get a metal one but I was worried it could be too sharp and actually hurt her because sometimes she goes crazy. When I saw this I thought this is it! And I'm happy with this product. Also my dog doesn't mind wearing that. She is very happy to see it and wear it because that means we will go out for walk.

Absolutely works! Awesome!!
I have a 7 month/80lb Bull Mastiff. He is usually well behaved on walks, until the one time he got really excited when he saw his buddy and took off dragging me along -face first in the dirt. That’s when I knew it was time to get some help.I looked at pinch collars and just think they make a dog look too unfriendly. Plus, I don’t want to punish my puppy, just train him properly. Then I came across this and thought it wouldn’t hurt to try...So far I’m very impressed. The first time I put it on he stopped pulling instantly! He wasn’t bad initially, but now he never pulls. I love that it just looks like a collar, it’s easy to put on and remove and for a small woman like me with a growing sweetheart of a beast - this has been a blessing! I no longer worry about his friends distracting him from being polite with me. He doesn’t go crazy to greet them, he lets me walk him over. I couldn’t be happier!!

Easy to adjust for neck size
Great control collar without being cruel. Works well on my cattle dog, as he's a bit hard headed and doesn't remember what "heel" means when he gets distracted.

This is the best
I honestly thought any type of collar of this type was by far the cruelest until I got my puppy an American terrier pit bull. Let me just say I almost lost my index finger due to all the pulling my dog was doing I tried several harnesses all failed until I came across this. Thank you this is by far the most awesome training collar I could ever purchase now our walks aren't the terror my dog was making go through

Broke after minimal use
Ive had success with a similar collar for my energetic dog and was initially satisfied before on today’s walk with no pulling or resistance the entire collar ripped away from the leash. 0 for Pet safety
