Integrative Medicine

I am a rheumatologist hoping to get more information about holistic and natural methods that my arthritis patients care about since they mention turmeric and the anti-inflammatory diet quite often. I thought this was just going to be a book about supplements and acupuncture... but it's so much more!!! It describes how a whole-health relationship with a patient should be in the contemporary healthcare era and what a healing relationship really means. The book discusses things that I was previously working on, like shared-decision making and trying to see from the point of view of the patient's culture and belief system, but it really solidified these ideas, made them more concrete, and elevated them to a practice that I aspire to and will work towards. And yes, it does also discuss holistic, natural, complementary, and alternative medicine in thorough detail for every specialty. I would recommend this book to anyone!!!

A sea of information with god references bit high priced

I'm so grateful to David Rakel for putting this text together for medical students/practitioners. At a time when conventional medicine is sending so many patients into bankruptcy, this text is evidence that empowering patients to participate in their own recovery is key. I look forward to insurance companies including integrative therapies in their covered treatments!

Loving this informative book. If you have an integrative medicine practice this is a good book to have. This is one of my go to’s in my practice.

I love this encyclopaedia of integrative medicine. Great details about functional approach and a very thorough list of references. It is easy to find what I need and helpful when looking for more options of causes and treatments.
