A complex and unusual Jacobean play
I don't think A Game At Chess has ever been performed since it was first on the stage, which makes it all the more interesting now. I'd be able to follow the action better if I understood chess better, (Middleton knew the game if he didn't play it) but it makes an interesting and dramatic backdrop to the power-struggle between the Black and White houses as characters ponder their next intrigue
