Melissa & Doug Let's Explore Campfire S'mores Play Set

I've had this on my watch list for about 2 years (since the product was first released). I finally purchased it because it went on sale for $11. Now, having owned it, I think I would be willing to pay $18; and $15 (which I have occasionally seen this set on sale for) is a GREAT price. I would be shocked if it is ever $11 again! I have a three year old, so with Melissa and Doug products I always do two things first thing when I open it: photocopy the cardboard box pictures, and hide the cardboard boxes away (and some year when she is old enough to take care of them I will bring them out.) For this s'mores set, I grabbed some similar-looking treat boxes from Dollar Tree to substitute for the M&D graham cracker and chocolate boxes. That way if they get smashed I can just go buy another. Sometimes if the box is small I might choose to tape it up with packing tape instead to give it structure. Because I have a photocopy of the pictures on the boxes, I can always print off the box pictures from my computer and tape them onto a different box. So there are a few different options to help you prolong the life of your (very cute!) cardboard boxes (which are doomed from the start if we are all being honest!) Pros: -They've thought of everything for a complete roleplay experience! We are able to roleplay the s'mores experience from the very first step: going to the "store" to buy ingredients. Then we cut our wood, build a fire, and cook our s'mores! Repeat. Repeat. Repeat! Seriously. My kids LOVE this! -I've researched all the pretend play s'mores options and I like this one best because you can "cook" the marshmallows by flipping them inside out. It's genius! Cons: -The cardboard boxes won't last. Plan accordingly! Flipping the marshmallows in and out is too difficult for younger kids. If purchasing for a young child, plan to play WITH them because they will ask for your help constantly, OR leave one marshmallow white and the other marshmallow on the toasted side so they can switch from one to the other on their own if playing individually. -Cutting the logs has been more fun than I anticipated. However, we've only played with the set for 2 days and the velcro on the logs is already showing more wear than I am comfortable with. I'm sad about that, but I keep replacement velcro tabs (purchased in bulk from Amazon) and toy glue on hand for just such an occasion. -The mesh bag is a nice touch; it can hold MOST of the items (the fire ring is too big), but it seems like an oversight for it to be mesh? Maybe it is a safety matter for M&D, but the velcro on the various items is CONSTANTLY getting stuck on the sides of the mesh bag. I might end up storing in a plastic drawstring I already have hanging out at my house.

This set is absolutely adorable. The kids that I work with loved playing with this in our dramatic play center. The pieces were all appropriately sized, and most kids found success independently manipulating these. Literally endless fun.

A really cute set that my 3 and 4 year old girls love using to pretend they’re camping and roasting marshmallows together.

This set gets so much use in our home! Sometimes my kids snag the fire and use it with their firefighter dress up stuff too. Quality is great and size is perfect we love that you can build a smore and really love how the marshmallows flip inside out to go from not roasted to roasted.

My son (3.5 yo) had camping as theme of the week at daycare. He saw this at a local store and was obsessed. Well a week later we bought it on sale on Amazon. It’s very cute set, might be slightly above his age’s abilities for independent play. I would have been disappointed if I paid full price. At twelve price point, it seemed right. Cons - - mesh bag has a Velcro closure, which gets caught on the bag - all other Velcro also sticks to the mesh bag - not all items (specially fire pit & sticks) fit in the mesh - marshmallows directions don’t even work as adult (put marshmallow on stick and flip to toasted when removing) - even without the stick, marshmallows are difficult to flip between toasted and not. - boxes for graham crackers & chocolate are thicker cardboard, but still not thick enough to prevent being crushed by a kid

The Melissa and Doug Campfire S'mores Set is made of quality materials; pieces are easy for little hands to use. I love the fact that this and other sets from Melissa and Doug lets children use their imaginations. Great gift to have on hand for birthday parties, etc. Our granddaughters definitely enjoyed playing with this set - besides that who can turn down a "s'smore" from a four-year-old!

This toy holds true to the excellent quality of Melissa & Doug toys. The log is fun to 'saw', the fire is brightly colored and stands easily on the Velcro strap. The crackers and chocolate come in a small box, making them quite realistic. The marshmallows come in a cute little bag. The directions booklet is great for following steps to make a fire and s'mores, with easy to follow pictures. My favorite item is the reversible marshmallows which look roasted after you turn them inside out! So fun! It is definitely a great toy and already has lots of play time hours and I'm looking forward to many more.

I love Melissa and Doug play sets. This one was very cute and the kids loved it. My son was 2 and my daughter was 7 both had fun playing with it. 3 years later and they still like playing with it.

Decidí comprar el juego de "Let's Explore S'Mores & More Campfire Play Set" de Melissa and Doug para mi hija y a pesar de no habérselo dado aún, puesto que estamos ayudando a papá Noel y los Reyes Magos a reunir los regalos, ha sido una acertada decisión. Se que cuando lo vea va a querer jugar sin parar. La entrega ha sido sorprendentemente rápida, teniendo en cuenta que llegaba desde EEUU a España e igualmente, ha resultado impecable. La empresa ha cuidado cada detalle del envío y da suficiente información como para estar tranquila esperando tu pedido, pudiendo realizar la comprobacion del seguimiento del mismo con todo detalle. Sin duda repetiré con esta empresa, puesto que tienen productos de Melissa and Doug que aquí no se encuentran, y me encantan. El único detalle negativo es que cuando quieres pedir varios artículos a la vez, te cobran los gastos de envío (que son considerables) de cada uno de ellos, en vez de realizar un único cobro por todos (aunque eso conllevara un pequeño aumento lógico en el precio del envío, al tener que enviar más productos) Por lo demás, recomendable 100% por su rapidez y fiabilidad.

I love everything from this brand. Nice wooden toys that last, it doesn’t break the bank when buying something for your child that you want to last. Just the packaging where the “s'mores” come in doesn’t last as it’s made out of cardboard. Only wished it would be different so it wouldn’t be destroyed after a week. But besides that my son loves it and makes s'mores every day.
