Quite effective even for terrible pain
This is going to be a long review, but I hope it helps someone in a similar situation. I had a sudden Sciatica flare-up - out of the blue - and the pain was quite bad and uncomfortable than anything I ever experienced before. There was no injury or sudden movement and I am usually active and fairly fit. I struggled on for a few days with just doing a few stretches and maintaining good posture but it seemed to stay stubborn. I did not know these heat patches existed and I came across them while browsing an isle (for arnica gel) at Target. They had the smaller size patches and I picked up 2 and applied immediately. The pain seemed to go down within an hour. And I could stand up from a chair without feeling the pain. Having said that, it is still temporary pain relief but an effective way to manage the pain. In a few days, I felt better by about 20% and went to get an Orthopedic massage ($$$) which is when my real nightmare started! I thought I was in quite a bit of pain (like 7-8/10)BEFORE I went for the massage but what happened after is no comparison. I got progressively worse (within 24 hours after the massage) and I could barely stand up straight or walk. I was bent at 45 degrees, I could not lay on either side of my body and it was impossible to lie on my back. It felt like someone had twisted or tied up a pair of nerves in my lower back and the nerve pain that shot through my leg was horrible. I had severe leg weakness and I could barely take a step. I loaded up on ibuprofen and tylenol before I could see a doctor and took benadryl in the hope to get some sleep.. These little patches eased pain enough to not faint and drag myself to see a doctor. I hope to never have such attacks (and never go for a massage when in pain) but if I experience any pain, I know I will use these first. Cons: - The size feels too big and clumsy to stick on. Mostly, I cut into half to use. - It does have a strong smell and some people may dislike it. I don't mind the smell of camphor and it did not bother me.

Ease of applying
Yes! It does give me temporary relief. Lower back especially where creams or roll on' s hard to dispense. You carefully peel back the short side, place the patch carefully. Stick to area and slowly peel as it adheres. That's why it's easy to apply to lower back. No straining. I've gone 12 hours, but usually 8 before removing. It does say not to use on areas that compression used. I keep away from those areas. It is the very easy applications reason of buying. The larger size also!!!
