Golden Classics

A great collection of their hits.
I saw Redbone in the early 70s at the Spectrum in Philly. They were the opening band for the Allman Brothers. If the Allman brothers decided they could not play, Redbone was well worth the price of admission. This cd contains a great collection of their music.

Four stars because of the erratic nature of the package; great songs, though
The first half is "Potlatch," and the second half is "Message from a Drum," although the collection throws two tracks from "Wovoka" on for good measure. Well, I have some problems with the package. First, the second song from "Potlatch," "Light as a Feather," is cut. However, I've heard about this problem in the past with other collections by this band. Why is that happening? I have the original LP, and I was expecting to hear the layered intro to the song, but it cuts in during the intro and sounds very awkward. Next, neither "Come and Get Your Love," nor "Wovoka" were on either of those albums, so why are they here? This is not a "greatest hits" collection. If you're simply seeking their most popular tunes, you'd be better served by an actual hits collection and not something that includes some of these tracks. None of these tracks are bad at all; as a matter of fact, this is one of my favorite bands of all time, and Lolly Vegas was an amazing guitarist. However, the schizophrenic nature of the CD forces me to skip it sometimes. One thing: I'd say that if the material had been remastered beyond this point, it would sound even better; it sounds good here-much better than the vinyl, but whoever is responsible for this can do better and give us a more updated sound (the mastering sounds 90's to me). Lastly, there is no actual information about the band inside, so the title "Golden Classics" is misleading (it makes it sound like a "hits" collection, when it is actually a reissue of one in-print CD and one long gone LP). I'd like to hear, finally, "Already Here," which is another long-gone LP that has never made its way to CD. Why didn't they pair "Message" with "Already Here," since both are out of print? I can get "Potlatch" anywhere.

Great jumping off point to get to know Redbone!!
Like a good majority of people I was not really familiar with Redbone and their music with the exception of their one big hit song -Come and Get Your Love. Witch Queen of New Orleans sounded vaguely familiar to me, but that was it. So I decided to try to find a compilation CD so I could become more familiar with their music. To say I am now a fan would be an understatement! Who knew they were so good? I certainly didn't! They have a great mix of pop, jazz, rock and Native American sounds. I was particularly blown away by the tracks off of their LP Potlatch, especially Perico. And why One Monkey wasn't even a minor pop hit for them is beyond me!! Oh, and for anyone who is a fan of their biggest hit, Come and Get Your Love, I highly recommend you go to YouTube and search out Redbone's appearance on The Midnight Special. You will never again want to hear that song without Chart 13th Hour as the lead in!! Great stuff!!! Do yourself a favor and get this CD. Then you can go back and buy up some of their LPs to expand your knowledge and appreciation of the band like me! 😀

Amazing Intro to Incredibly Versatile Band!
My brother always enjoyed "Come and Get Your Love" back in '73 when it came out. But I had no idea about the other great music they made, until Rollye James started playing it on her (satellite / internet) radio program. Then I was instantly hooked! This is a wonderful introduction to this tragically overlooked band. There are only a few small criticisms of this CD. A few of the tunes ("Maxsplivitz" and "Perico") are only a few seconds long, which is a bit strange. Also the more unfamiliar songs (like "Drinkin' and Blo") lean toward the "bloozier" side of the band. The real gem here is "The Sun Never Shines Upon the Lonely" which almost sounds like a forgotten doo-wop classic by the Four Seasons! Also consider that Pat and Lolly Vegas (the "battery" of the group) were once part of the Shindogs on TV's "Shindig!" show! (Check out their YouTube videos). They were also in a spy spoof film called 'The Nasty Rabbit.' Once you get this CD, go back and buy their previous album releases. Great music, fun vibrations and an uplifting philosophy -- just what we need in these troubled times!

Like a lot of us, I was re-introduced to Redbone Via Guardians of the Galaxy, so I picked the Golden Classics.Great CD, and it plays in the background on my computer all the time.

Love the songs
Guardians of the Galaxy brought me here. Item arrived on time. The case has a teeny bit of damage, but the CD plays great.

The Very Best Of REDBONE" zulegen.

I love this group
I have been a huge fan since I bought the first album ( Redbone ) back in the sixties . what the bass and drums were doing is unmatched to this day , combined with the " Leslie " guitar sound and the voices , they were ( are ) a real treat to hear .
