100% variable lighting output is awesome. max is very bright.
bought this and a fan for power outages. picked right on both items. . this lamp is pretty perfect for this need. the variable brightness dial is a big step up from buttons you push repeatedly to get maybe 3 settings. this is a full blown rheostat, and it turns smoothly through the lights entire possible range. . on max, it brightens my whole living room to a degree you can read print, down low where you get max battery life, you can see pretty clearly, and navigate easily. . the 4 d batteries in the bottom lend it weight and good stability. . seems pretty well made, though the battery compartment is a bit less so. the bottom cover screws on solidly. might could use an o ring to make it watertight. . I can see where it would be useful in a campsite. . the rotating on off knob is awesome. its really bright on max. kicks a candles a** !

Great lantern for when the power goes out. I like the different settings.

Bright light small size
Rather compact for a 4 D cell light. Good price, fairly light weight. The light flickers on both of mine. But otherwise sems good.

Lite & Bright!
Small, but mighty! Lightweight compared to the heavy lanterns I was replacing. Iโm 72 and these are easy for me to carry from room to room. I bought 3 to make it safer to get around the house during a power outage. The batteries are easy to change and operation is simple. Iโm considering giving a couple to my nephew as a wedding gift!

This little unit holds its own for brightness.
Takes three D batteries. Top is removable with 1/4 turn for different illumination properties within a room. Do not look at LEDs directly if top lens is removed. It lights up a 12x12 ft room adequately to move around but must be placed next to work if desiring to write. There are similar lanterns that are twice the size (see pic) and hold six batteries so when I purchased it I thought I was getting the same; not so. See attached picture for reference. The item purchased is the green one on the left. The item on the right is twice the size (for reference) but does not have as many LEDs, so ironically, is not as bright. Operation- (in order of operation) medium, low, high, & flashing (not SOS) and off. If you have a limited supply of batteries but need maximum light this unit maybe ideal since it only requires three D sized batteries.

Bright light.
It is a trade off between brightness and battery life, but you control it with a brightness knob. With 10,000 Mah rechargeable lithium batteries at the brightest light the batteries will last for 3 hours, and at the lowest light they will last for 24 hours. Under 10,000 Mah it is 2 hours and 20 hours respectfully. I can function at the lowest light level, but there are times, such as cooking when it is dark out, that I would prefer a brighter light. Currently it takes me between 7 and 10 hours to recharge the 4 required batteries. This means that I need a supply of batteries to use until the recharge is complete. Keep in mind that you need to consider what your recharge options are. If you are out in the woods for a week with no way to recharge them, you will need a bigger supply of batteries.
