Great for doing design transfers and more!
I have been using an old General’s white charcoal pencil that was nearing the end and was glad to find they are still manufacturing them. You can use these white charcoal pencils for image transfers. Just draw out a design on tracing paper, then flip it to transfer the image to darker paper using a stone burnisher or other hard smooth object such as a paperweight or spoon. It works great and the charcoal doesn’t smear easily like pastel does! It does however, erase easily with a vinyl or kneaded eraser. I like that the two pack includes a decent sharpener. Make sure to use the all-art or a good metal one such as the KUM brand when you sharpen these pencils. They are thin like regular graphite pencils which I think makes them easier to handle as I have smaller hands. These are great for drawing on darker papers and go great as a highlighting pencil with used with other charcoal pencils.

Get this one!!!
I bought some off the shelf at Michaels after I saw a crafter using white charcoal pencil instead of white water color pencils, with such strong white color laid out! Less need to build up color! But the micheals one would not sharpen!! They came out of the package dull and the “lead” of the pencil crumbled as I attempted to sharpen it. I tried both ends! And then threw it out. These take a lovely sharp point for detail work and have the strong color I wanted on my medium! Perfect and worth the money.

White Charcoal Pencil
This is works well to draw guidelines for painting and easily erased on acrylic paint. I use to mark dark fabrics for cutting.

Hmmmm...
General chalk pencils were recommended to my by an art instructor as an alternative to messier chalk alternatives. I'm not sure how I feel about them at this point. Although they are "white", they read more cream than true white and I don't feel I get the results I get from other chalk forms. I'll keep using them and see if sharpening, paper choices, etc change my opinion, but for now, I will say that they are nice pencils at a good price. Just not sure they are doing what chalk usually does.

Perfect with family calendar chalkboard!!!
I have two chalkboards ... one I made myself with chalkboard paint from the hardware store and another commercial calendar style chalkboard. These pencils work GREAT on both. I erase by wiping lightly with a damp microfiber cloth. In the 1st photo, the days of the week and the word MENU are with liquid chalk (not this item) but found it too difficult to use and not fine lined enough. Couldn’t fit the kids’ events in the calendar chalkboard. So I purchased these pencils. Problem solved. Line is thin yet easily readable, and can be made dark and thick (as in the words BOO and the bats, the ghosts or what I intended to be ghosts, LOL). Everything on the calendar is with this pencil. MUCH easier to use than liquid chalk. Comes with a nice metal pencil sharpener. LOVE!!!
