Repels snakes
I tested this with skepticism, but....I had a snake problem next to my porch. I pushed this into the ground and voila! no more snakes at all. I then removed it from the area and again there was a big snake back on my porch in front of my door. I then tried it in the woods next to an area where I saw snakes, and their hole/nest. Never saw another there after it was installed a year ago. I have to believe it works on snakes. I have not tested it with rodents, however.Downside is that they are not well-made. You have to be careful pulling it out of the ground or it will come apart. The stake seems to be cheap aluminum and the pointed tip can come off. It also beeps a bit loud when you approach it, but that indicates it is working.

Zero Stars (if I could)
Was optimistic when purchasing this item as I have tried literally everything. I live unfortunately in a neighborhood with many moles and there is no way to get rid of them however they are destroying my mulch beds. This item is quite loud even in the ground I can hear it from 20 + feet away. The moles are completely unfazed by the noise it emits and the Chipmunks laugh every time it goes off. If it's meant to scare rodents I swear it attracts them instead! As if to rub salt in the wounds, the moles have taken up residence within inches of these and they are indeed NOT working! No luck, guess I'm going to have to figure something else out. Don't waste your money! Get poisonous worms or something instead. That's my last resort! Wish I could get my 30 bucks back.....

They work, but come with a couple annoyances...
On a positive note, no voles in site anymore (so they're working for my needs). But two things to note from my experience: 1) You can hear them beep up to 20 feet away, and 2) once they're in the ground, if you pull them out they disconnect from the tip, tube and top. I had to superglue them to one-another to keep from coming apart in case I want to move them.

Not real happy.
I have had this less than a month and one is already not working and the other seems to be fading, the noise is not as loud as it first was and it is in a spot with enough sun. The one that broke, I wanted to move it but the tip was stuck in the ground and the wires broke when I tried to remove the tip. Not real happy.

Fails after 3 months - water leaks into motors - poor design
Failed after 3 months. Water leaks into motors. At first, all was well, I could hear motors firing off every 30 seconds. But after about 4 months, both units are silent and the moles are back! There are rubber gaskets which are supposed to seal the green plastic motor tips inserted into the aluminum metal body tube, but the seals do not work. I contacted seller and got no response.Next time I'll buy ones single molded plastic stake. Stay away from any design which has removable tips unless you plan to seal with silicon or similar.

pepper plant eaters BEWARE!
Last year I had a mysterious creature who ate EVERY single one of my pepper plants even the jalapeƱos ! I vowed revenge! I got it this year by using one of these next to the raised bed where I planted the peppers. Take that creature of the dark! I bought two of these & put them about 15 feet apart. One worked like a charm, the other didn't save my tomatoes. Maybe if I get more next year? and put them closer to each other?

Flimsy.
Works...The metal spike transmits sounds better than the plastic ones I have bought in the past.But.......These break very easily, even during installation. Very poorly put together. I ruined 2 of the 4 that I bought just trying to get them in the ground.I broke a third one by running over it with my garbage can...Admittedly I'm not surprised it broke from that. Probably anything would.

Not effective for moles
I bought these to keep the moles out of our yard because they keep pushing up little dirt mounds, but they do not seem to be working. My husband and I have noticed at least 5-6 new mounds since installing them in our yard. He has a degree in horticulture and knows how & where to place these, so I know that is not the problem. Waste of $30.
