Really Great Cookbook
I have an extensive cookbook collection, my first being a Better Homes and Gardens cookbook from the 70'. My Mom had one from 1950's. I thought it would be fun to to see what BH and G cookbook was like 50 years roughly after I bought my first one so I bought their 100th Anniversary New Cook Book. I am justastonished how great and extensive this book is. I love it!! Very Impressive. Buy a copy, and it would make the best bridal shower gift of all, too. You will not be disappointed. So all you have to do is go to your Amazon account and press some buttons. It will be arriving soon!!

Impressive Excellence
Now that I’m retired, I decided to start cooking more. I’ve sure got lots of learning to do, so I purchased “BH&G New Cook Book” to get started and I got way more than I was hoping for. Impressively thorough and complete. Meticulous work went into this reference. From what I can tell it’s the Bible of Cook Books. I certainly won’t need to purchase another one, I’m going to be busy with this one. I like that. If you only purchase one cookbook, I’d make it this one.

best cookbook ever
This is arguably the best cookbook I've ever seen. I'm 71, been cooking since I was six, have a rack of cookbooks six feet long, but I still treasure old fashioned books that tell you how to make something that tastes good and is NOT overly fussy. Plus something that's a little more modern, and will tell you how to make anything from vanilla pudding, white bread, or meatballs to pad thai or tandoori chicken. Lots of great pictures, lots of great tips, this book could make a real cook out of anyone. I hoped it would be good; I was literally astounded that it would be so great. I saw the other reviews criticizing the thin pages, I think that's overstated. They are fine, the hardcover edition is sturdy and will last a long time. The book lays flat, it will be easy to use, has some vegetarian and gluten free ideas, it's probably the best all-purpose cookbook I've ever seen. And the recipes were obviously written by people who actually know how to cook, more than 700 pages of them. I made my career as a journalist communicator, and this book communicates how to cook, with illustration. It's a masterpiece.

Mixed feelings
I just received my copy today, and so far, I have mixed feelings. I got this to supplement my older (11th) edition. I'm happy my older edition is still ok for now, because I can see some recipes were taken out to make room for the new ones. (As is often the case when there are new editions.)Pros, to me: it has newer, updated recipes that reflect more diverse flavors we enjoy (think Chai or kombucha as well as old favorites like lasagna). I like that there is a section just on charts you could use for cooking. I really like the "Then and Now" section. It does still cover basic things for those new to the kitchen. Some cons for me: I'm not fond of the magazine-like layout on most pages. I find it a bit distracting. I also don't quite like that the "Then & Now" section is BEFORE the Table of Contents; it makes it hard to find the Contents. And I'm not positive yet that I like the change in some of the categories for the Table of Contents.I look forward to trying several recipes, I found some I already want to try.A note on the paper quality mentioned in many reviews: I DO find the paper quality is not the same as in my other copy, or in other cookbooks I have. I will agree it feels like a cheaper quality, though I think you will be fine if you're reasonably careful. When I read reviews on different cookbooks, I noted photos seem to be an important factor for many people. I guess because my other edition doesn't have as many, I got used to it. But this edition has A LOT of photos.Update: I made the Chicken Schwarma two nights ago, following the pressure cooker directions (the recipe gives directions for slow or pressure cooker options). It was very good, I will definitely make it again. And I did accidentally splash water drops on the page in spots. It does make the page curl a little.

My favorite cookbook
This cookbook has always been a staple in my home! I love it and use it so much that I tend to buy the new version every 10ish years! This version is absolutely beautiful! The photos are great quality and in abundance! It has cooking tips throughout the book, along with education on the basics for beginning cooks. One of my favorite things about this book is the variation ideas for things like pancakes and muffins, where there is a basic recipe and they give you all sorts of ideas to change it up in different ways and they will tell you exactly what and how to edit to make the changes!

The Best Cookbook for Home Cooks
The recipes use well-thought-out techniques and ingredients so that it's easy enough for the average home cook to make them, yet the results are full of flavor and textures that combine to make each mouthful a symphony of delight. And once you've cooked the basic recipe, it's usually easy to see how to modify it for your individual tastes.Like every edition, this latest one includes information on the equipment and gadgets a home kitchen needs (and those that may be nice to have), as well as explanations of the different ingredients and how to use them. Photos of many common ingredients are included as well (such as a wide variety of leafy vegetables).I've been cooking from versions of this cookbook since the late 90s, and none has let me down. I'm happy to say this one continues the tradition.
