The Cat at Night Hardcover – January 1, 2008

In the sea of children's books, this one is truly something special. My daughter has loved this book and it's vivid illustrations since she was a baby - she's now 7 and asked me to purchase a copy of this book to donate to her elementary school library as part of their birthday book club, and I was more than happy to oblige. Dahlov Ipcar was a beautiful artist and storyteller - as you'll see from any of her books (and she has many) - if you're a parent, grandparent, or anyone else looking to gift a child a unique book that they will treasure for years, I highly recommend The Cat at Night.

When my 43 years old son was very small, this was his favorite book. I think it was the way the book portrayed how the cat saw things at night, in the dark. I just purchased this book recently for his new baby grandson. Now he can share his favorite book with his first grandchild.

This is a pleasant story book with beautiful illustration. At the time we bought this book we had a black cat, which our 2 year old daughter likened to the cat in the book. When our cat recently passed away, our daughter asked us where she had gone and we told her that our cat at gone to the forest to hunt rabbits, like the cat in the book. No further questions, no sadness - it was a given that her beloved friend had gone off to the forest to hunt rabbits, and she cheerfully reminds us of this fact often. Sappy though it may be, our cat lives on in the pages of this book and in our daughter's imagination.

I had to return another copy of this same book to the other company from which I purchased it, as it was not in the good condition described, and the pages kept tearing off the binding. This book exactly matches the ancient, overly loved one (30 years?) I was trying to replace, and it exactly fits the bill. I raised my own two grown boys on this book and now I share it most happily with my students. Very pleased with this edition.

Very nice book that I am gifting to a toddler who is a cat lover. This book is out of stock and I am so glad I tracked it down.I enjoyed reading it and I am sure my niece will love it.

this book is ok. the drawings are nice, but the one on the cover is the best in the book and the others just don't match up in terms of quality and color. i wanted to love this book, but neither i nor my daughter much cared for it. the text is boring, nothing interesting, nothing that hasn't been done before (or since such as kitten's first full moon)... and the drawings were average at best. my advice: unless you LOVE all books about cats, this is one to skip. better choices: Caps for Sale, the Practical Princess, The Sheep of the Lal Bagh, Mog the Foregetful Cat, and mr. shaws shipshape shoe shop.

One of my daughters favorite bedtime stories. Been reading it to her since she was a baby and at 4 it’s still her go to book for a bedtime story.

This is a wonderful children's book. The illustrations though simple are well conceived. Every page shows a scene how we would see it at night in blacks and whites and the following page has how the cat can see it in color and additional aspects are revealed. The story is simple yet is written in language that will develop vocabulary. A really nice book.

This is quite different from a lot of young children's books at the moment. It's got quite a nice intellectual side to it, without being overly "educational", so children really warm to it.
