A good read.
I enjoyed this book. Well written and open account of a life well lived with honesty and humour. He writes as he speaks. Off the cuff and interesting. Bob has the gift of words and as you read the book you can appreciate that his life has not always been sunshine and roses but by hardwork and endeavour he has achieved more than he ever dreamed he could. Highly recomened.

A great autobiography
And Away... by Bob MortimerA Review of “And Away” by Bob MortimerI watched. Bob Mortimer on “Would I Lie to You” and found him highly amusing. For instance, he described how did his own dentistry and how he set his parent's house on fire. The opposing team accused him of lying but it was all true. So when my book club put “And Away”, Bob Mortimer’s autobiography on the list, I had to read it. I started on the paperback version but something was missing. I had a “free” Audible pass so I called it up. Hearing Bob speaking changed a two-star to a four-star experience. In Audible, Bob came to life. The first half of the book describes the life of young Bob Mortimer growing up in Middlesbrough before he became famous and his love of football. The second half is mainly about the celebrity Bob after he ran into Vic Reeves who of course eventually became his longstanding comedy partner.“And Away” is a serious book but it also managed to be warm and cuddly. The autobiography reveals Bob’s journey through life, his extreme shyness when he was young and how he found it difficult to make friends, his friendships (when he succeeded in making them). Bob also tells us about his professional life before he met Vic Reeves. Bob’s bio reveals that he was a solicitor with a heart. (A heart that needed bypass surgery at one stage.) This part tells you more about Bob Mortimer as a person; no ambulance chaser here. It is an honest and informative book and Bob comes across as very smart, very likeable and a kind person. But we all knew that already. The book also describes how he met Vic Reeves (real name Jim Moir) and how they started to work together. It also explains his friendship with Paul Whitehouse and their fishing adventures.

Excellent autobiography
Bought this on Kindle for a short holiday. I very much enjoyed reading Bob Mortimer’s autobiography. I have been aware of his and Vic Reeves work over the years but was never obsessed by it but if I saw their programs were on, I watched. Bob M is incredibly entertaining on “Would I Lie to You”.This is quite a serious book and is revealing about a young man’s journey growing up. I enjoyed reading about his friendships and how he met Vic Reeves (real name Jim Moir) and how they started to work together. He talks about his extreme shyness when he was young and how he found it difficult to make friends. Also his work as a solicitor tells you more about Bob Mortimer as a person. It is an honest and informative book about human nature. He comes across as very smart, very likeable and a kind person. But we all knew that already.

Wonderful
In this book Bob Mortimer describes the 'Would I lie to you' show as an "unexpected success for me, especially as it is watched by an audience that, largely speaking, wouldn't touch me with a long, bent, infected stick"Reading those words I couldn't help but laugh at how directly that spoke to me - because I am one of those people.I love WILTY but, as I have never understood the Vic and Bob humour, I expected to be completely bored by Bob when he was on the show. However my view changed completely as his story had me actually crying with laughter.Having been entertained by all his wonderful stories, I wanted to read this biography and it was amazing. I could not put this book down. It was a very funny and surprisingly emotional read and it was lovely to know more about a man who I now consider to be very very funny.

More of Bob Mortimer is always welcome
I never read biographies, this must be a first for me. The reason being I love watching Bob Mortimer in whatever he does, particularly his fishing series which is remarkable given I have a life long dislike of anything related to fishing, as it always struck me as quite a boring thing to do! Or maybe the very first bloke who asked me out on a date invited me to go fishing with him! (No I didn't and never went out with him). I recently read The Satsuma Complex which I loved especially because it is written in Bob Mortimer's inimitable style which is so funny and I'm hooked on. He is the first person I ever wanted to find out about, hence this biography which tells some of what I already learnt from WILTY appearances and his life story which I found fascinating and endearing. One thing that endorses my own writing, especially when I have a confidence wobble that maybe I should try to be more like the editors and rule makers tell us writers we should be, is plain to read in his writing - being true to yourself sets you apart from other writers. Bob Mortimer is different, unique and a breath of fresh air - yes just like his fishing series!

A magical Journey
From a shy, unconfident child with no friends and a miserable childhood, through a traumatic medical crisis to a national treasure whom all men would want as a pal and all women would want to cuddle. This is an autobiography with surprises on every page told with wit, modesty and charm.
